Rust Force Wipe: What It Resets, When It Happens, and Blueprint Wipes

A Rust force wipe usually resets the map with a monthly update, but blueprint wipes are separate. Check Facepunch’s latest notice and your server’s own schedule.

A Rust “force wipe” usually means the map reset associated with Facepunch’s monthly game update. It does not automatically mean blueprints are wiped too: map wipes and blueprint wipes are separate, and each server’s published rules determine what to expect.

What does “force wipe” mean in Rust?

Players commonly use “force wipe” for the reset associated with Facepunch’s monthly Rust update, especially the forced map reset. The phrase is shorthand, not a promise that every kind of progression will be erased. A server can reset its world without wiping learned blueprints, and an operator can also set its own wipe schedule.

Map wipe vs. blueprint wipe

Wipe type What it resets What it means for players
Map or server wipe The server’s world state, including player structures and possessions tied to that world. Players start again in a reset world. Other data retention depends on the server’s implementation and rules.
Blueprint (BP) wipe Learned crafting blueprints. Players must relearn crafting unlocks that were removed. This can happen alongside a map wipe, but is a separate reset.

Do not assume account-level items, ranks, stats, or season history are reset—or retained—by every wipe. Those details are not universal rules established by the sources here; check the server’s own policy.

Does every Rust force wipe reset blueprints?

No. Facepunch’s Pivot Or Die update on November 6, 2025, said it was wiping both servers and blueprints for that update. In the same post, Facepunch left future monthly blueprint wipes undecided. That statement describes the policy discussion at that time, not a guarantee of the current 2026 policy. Read the latest update notice rather than treating one past wipe as a standing rule.

Facepunch author Alistair wrote on November 6, 2025: “Does this mean we’ll be force-wiping Blueprints every month? Maybe. We’re not committing to anything yet. We’re going to play, watch, and listen before making any long-term decisions based on the past two months of changes.” Facepunch said the reset was intended to restore early- and mid-game progression. The update also changed blueprint research costs; those update-specific values do not establish a recurring wipe schedule. Read Facepunch’s Pivot Or Die update.

When does a Rust force wipe happen?

Third-party wipe guides commonly describe the Facepunch forced map wipe as tied to the monthly update, often on the first Thursday. Treat that as a customary expectation, not a guaranteed date or hour for every server. Facepunch’s cited update does not give a fixed update time, and community servers may publish different schedules.

  1. Check Facepunch’s latest update announcement for the current update and wipe information: Facepunch Rust News.
  2. Check the server’s website, Discord, or in-game announcement for its confirmed wipe date, time, and timezone.
  3. If a calendar or countdown shows an expected window, confirm it with the operator before planning around it.

For server-owner context on scheduling wipes around updates, see GG Host’s Rust server wipe guidance. It is operational guidance from a hosting provider, not a universal Rust rule.

How to check a server’s wipe policy before joining

Server operators can set schedules that differ from the monthly-update convention. For example, RougeGaming publishes weekly map wipes and a monthly full wipe for its own servers; that is one operator’s policy, not a rule for all Rust servers. Check RougeGaming’s schedule as an example of a server-specific calendar.

  • Map-wipe cadence: Is it weekly, biweekly, monthly, or another stated interval?
  • Blueprint policy: Are BPs retained, wiped on a schedule, or wiped when Facepunch requires it?
  • Update timing: Does the server follow the Facepunch update or publish its own dates?
  • Time and certainty: Which timezone does the announcement use, and is the listed time confirmed or only expected?

For Rust server owners

Server owners have a choice between coordinating a reset with a game update and following a separate published cadence. Hosting guidance discusses scheduling server wipes and handling resets after updates, but exact controls depend on the host and server setup. Do not assume a particular panel, command, or automatic-wipe behavior without checking the documentation for your own provider and configuration.
