Its premise and progression loop give it a clear hook; whether its combat, challenge and level design make that loop compelling is less settled by the available review evidence. The fairest verdict is that it looks worth considering for players drawn to a relaxed, conventional Metroidvania-style adventure, but the mixed reception makes it harder to recommend as a must-play.
What kind of game is Rusty Rabbit?
In a frozen future where humanity has left Earth and rabbits have become dominant, you play Stamp, an older rabbit who scavenges and tinkers. He pilots the Junkster mech through enormous human ruins—the “giants” of the game’s fiction. The official Rusty Rabbit site describes it as a 2.5D side-scrolling action-adventure and credits Gen Urobuchi of NITRO PLUS with writing the scenario.

The advertised play loop connects exploration, combat and equipment progression: advance through dungeons, fight enemies, collect junk and use it to strengthen your gear. The official site names drill, hammer, blade and shotgun weapon types. That establishes the ingredients, not how varied or balanced they feel over the full game.
Is Rusty Rabbit worth playing?
It may suit players who want a story-led, salvage-themed side-scroller and are content with a relatively laid-back take on familiar genre ideas. It is a less certain choice for players seeking a demanding challenge or a game that substantially reinvents the Metroidvania formula.

Reception is mixed rather than uniformly negative or positive. At the snapshot retrieved on October 8, 2026, Metacritic listed 70/100 from 13 critic reviews, with five positive and eight mixed. Steam listed 67% positive from 59 user reviews. These are separate, limited, changeable datasets, not a definitive measure of quality; consult the Metacritic listing and Steam page for current figures.
Individual reviews illustrate the trade-offs without proving a universal consensus. Digital Chumps described the adventure as fun and deep while noting repetition; Video Chums called it entertaining but cautioned that its laid-back formula may not satisfy players seeking more challenge; PlayStation Universe characterized it as solid while suggesting it hews closely to genre conventions. Those are the outlets’ judgments, not a substitute for evaluating the game yourself.

Platforms, release date and language support
NetEase announced a global release for April 17, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Steam lists April 16, 2025 for its PC release, a one-day difference in the dates presented by the publisher and store. The publisher announced a $19.99 price at launch; that historical announcement is not a current price, so check your region’s store for today’s price and availability.
The official English product page lists Japanese and English voiceovers, with subtitles in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, German and Spanish. It gives the game an IARC 7+ rating. Steam also identifies it as single-player and lists English full audio and subtitles.

Is there a physical Nintendo Switch version?
There is a regional distinction. NetEase’s release announcement said a packaged Nintendo Switch edition was available only in Japan and Asia, while the English official site labels distribution digital only. That does not establish a broadly available international cartridge. If considering an imported copy, verify the specific edition, region and seller listing rather than assuming a local physical release.
