Roblox separately said its review found no sign that he had been moved to off-platform contact through the game. Police reported that Medlin’s body was recovered from the water off Red Hook, Brooklyn, on March 7 and his identity was confirmed March 12. The department’s release does not state a cause or manner of death.
What investigators said about Roblox
Early reports relayed a belief that Medlin might have planned to meet someone he encountered on Roblox. That was an initial reported belief, not a verified finding. Roblox later described its own review, and Suffolk County Police subsequently reported findings from a broader examination of social-media and online-gaming profiles and electronic devices.
Roblox’s account
On January 26, Roblox said it found no attempt to move Medlin to off-platform communication, no sharing of off-platform contact information, and no indication that he used voice chat. The company characterized the chat it reviewed as consistent with typical in-game discussions. Roblox’s statement was reproduced by Insider Gaming; its original social post was not directly available in the contemporaneous reporting cited here.
As quoted by Insider Gaming, Roblox said: “When we learned that one of our users was missing, we followed our standard process and immediately began an investigation, searched for any previous law enforcement inquiries, and reached out to law enforcement to offer any support in their investigation.” This is the company’s description of its own review, not the police department’s conclusion.

Police findings

In its March 12 update, the department stated: “This examination has determined these platforms are not connected to his disappearance.” It also said: “There is no indication of criminal activity.” Those statements reflect the police investigation and should be distinguished from Roblox’s separate account of its review.
