No. The rumored game tied to HBO’s The Penguin and Matt Reeves’ The Batman was publicly denied by DC Studios co-head James Gunn in August 2024. GameSpot quoted him saying, “Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever.” It was a rumor, not an announced game; whether a similar project has been revisited since then is unverified.
What was the Penguin game rumor?
A brief mention in Puck News reporting about Warner Bros. Discovery suggested a video game based on HBO’s The Penguin, the series connected to The Batman. Contemporaneous coverage said the report offered little information. It did not establish a developer, genre, gameplay details, platforms, release date, or development status.
GameSpot reported Gunn’s denial on August 30, 2024: “Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever.” That makes the reported project a debunked rumor, not a confirmed game.
Why did the rumor sound plausible?
DC identifies The Batman as a Matt Reeves film starring Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, and says it was set to open in theaters on March 4, 2022. DC’s film page provides that context.

It describes the game as a LEGO story drawing on Batman’s wider history across film, television, comics, and games; The Penguin is among its villains. Warner Bros. Games announcement. | An officially announced LEGO Batman game, not evidence of a game based on The Batman or The Penguin series. |
| Gotham Knights | DC describes it as an open-world action RPG developed by WB Games Montréal, with an on-sale date of October 21, 2022. DC’s game page. | A separate Batman game, unrelated to Gunn’s denial of the rumor. |
Has the rumored game been canceled permanently?
The public denial establishes that the report was not true as described in August 2024. The available official announcements and reporting do not establish whether a similar project has since been reconsidered or privately developed, so its later status is unverified. Look for confirmation from DC or Warner Bros. Games before treating any new claim as an announcement.
