That is a historical offer, not a current deal. Price trackers now show different lows, so there is no well-supported universal “lowest ever” figure. Here is what the old gaming CPU deals included, what the 7950X3D offers, and what to check before comparing prices today.
What the headline deal actually was
HotHardware’s Paul Lilly reported the 7950X3D at $499 at Amazon on June 10, 2024, versus its $699 launch MSRP, and described the offer as the processor’s cheapest price to date. The article tied the discounts to AMD’s announced Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 generation, which was expected the following month. Those figures document that day’s offers; they do not establish present-day availability or pricing. HotHardware’s June 10, 2024 deal article.
The “lowest price ever” claim needs a date and a tracking scope. For example, TechSpot reported a $569 current price on October 7, 2026, and a $569 tracked low on October 2, 2026. Other trackers list different records: one reports $399, while Tom’s Hardware’s CPU Price Index showed a $472 lowest-ever figure. The trackers’ retailer coverage and tracking windows differ, so these numbers are not directly interchangeable and do not support a single universal record. What the Ryzen 9 7950X3D includes—and what it doesn’t
AMD’s official product specifications describe the Ryzen 9 7950X3D as a Zen 4 desktop CPU for the AM5 socket, with 16 cores, 32 threads, a 4.2 GHz base clock, boost up to 5.7 GHz, 128 MB of L3 cache and a 120 W default TDP. It supports DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0, with support for listed AM5 chipsets. AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X3D specifications.

- Max. Boost Clock : Up to 5.7 GHz; Base Clock: 4.3 GHz
- Form Factor: Desktops , Boxed Processor
- Architecture: Zen 5; Former Codename: Granite Ridge AM5
The boxed processor does not include a thermal solution. AMD recommends liquid cooling for optimal performance, so add the cost of an appropriate cooler when calculating a build or upgrade. A listed TDP is a product specification, not a complete prediction of power draw or cooling needs in every system.
Compare platform cost, not just CPU prices
The 7950X3D and the 7800X3D are Ryzen 7000-series AM5 processors and use DDR5 memory. The Ryzen 5000 options in HotHardware’s list—the 5800X3D and 5700X3D—use the AM4 platform and DDR4. Moving to the newer platform can therefore require a compatible motherboard and memory as well as the CPU; an AM4 owner may have a different upgrade bill from someone building from scratch. - Already on AM5: compare the CPU’s current price with your existing board and DDR5 setup, and account for the cooler if you do not have a suitable one.
- Already on AM4: include the cost of any needed BIOS or board compatibility checks, and compare a CPU-only upgrade with the cost of changing platforms. The historical 5800X3D-plus-B550 bundle price does not establish what a compatible board costs now.
- Building a new PC: compare complete platform totals—processor, motherboard, memory and cooling—rather than ranking CPUs by old sticker prices.
How to judge a 7950X3D offer today
Check the live listing and stock at the retailer before treating any figure as a deal. If using a price-history chart, note the tracker, the date, which retailers it follows and the period covered; a “lowest ever” label is only meaningful within that scope. Confirm the exact processor and whether the price is for the CPU alone or a bundle.
Then match the purchase to your workload. The 7950X3D’s 16 cores and 32 threads are relevant if the same desktop will also handle substantial creator or other threaded work. For a gaming-focused comparison, consider the cache-equipped models alongside platform cost, but these sources do not provide a same-date, independently controlled benchmark set for ranking their gaming performance. Avoid treating a price discount or specification sheet as proof that one option delivers a particular frame-rate advantage.
