Grounded crashing on PC: identify when it happens
Before changing settings, write down whether Grounded crashes on startup, while loading a save, during play, or in multiplayer. Note whether you use Steam or Xbox on PC, what you were doing immediately before the crash, and whether anything changed recently. Those details make it easier to explain and reproduce the issue in a support report.
Verify the game files if you use Steam

Open Steam and go to Library.

Right-click Grounded and choose Properties.

Open Local Files and select VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES…
Steam checks the installation; Obsidian’s instructions say, “Steam will verify the game files.” See Obsidian’s file-verification instructions. Labels may vary if the Steam client interface changes.

If crashes come with poor performance, try Grounded’s performance checks
Obsidian’s guidance for the original Grounded focuses on performance, not a universal crash fix. If crashes occur alongside low frame rates, stuttering, or graphics problems, its performance troubleshooting article suggests checking that your system meets the game’s requirements and that graphics drivers are up to date. It also recommends testing these settings:

Switch to fullscreen mode or lower the resolution.

Lower graphics settings or the frame-rate limit.

Set Motion Blur to 0 or Field of View to 90.

Lower the render scale.
Change settings one at a time where practical, so you can tell whether one affects the performance symptom. These suggestions may help when a stability problem accompanies performance trouble, but Obsidian does not present them as a fix for every crash.

Report a crash that persists
Obsidian’s original-game bug-reporting guidance asks players to check the technical forums first, then include useful details when submitting a report:

Your system specifications.
To create a system-information file in Windows, press Windows+R, enter dxdiag, then choose Save All Information. The file may include identifying information about your computer; review it and remove anything you do not want to share before sending it.
Choose support based on the problem
For gameplay or technical issues, the original Grounded support page points players to Obsidian’s support site, forums, and Discord. For purchase or installation problems, it directs players to the relevant store support: Xbox or Steam. See Obsidian’s Grounded technical-support options.

If you play through Xbox on PC, the original-game sources cited here do not provide a dedicated crash checklist comparable to Steam’s file-verification steps. Use Obsidian’s technical-support resources for the game and Xbox support for store or installation issues.
Do not confuse Grounded 2 crash advice with original Grounded fixes
Obsidian has a separate crash guide for Grounded 2, last updated August 25, 2026. It discusses removing mods, Windows updates, overheating, and BIOS conditions affecting certain 13th- or 14th-generation Intel CPUs, among other checks. That guide applies to the sequel; it is not confirmation that those steps fix crashes in the original Grounded.
The sequel’s guide also mentions checking for dust around fans, vents, and filters as general PC maintenance when overheating is a concern. Cleaning can be a reasonable optional maintenance step, but it is not a proven fix for an original-Grounded crash. For model-specific BIOS or hardware questions, consult the PC or motherboard manufacturer rather than changing firmware settings based on sequel-specific advice.
