Match your symptom below, try the least disruptive step first, and stop when the game works.
First, identify where War Thunder fails
Write down any error code and note when the problem occurs: while the launcher updates, as the client starts, during loading, after entering a match, or while connecting to a server. A game that opens but cannot connect is not necessarily crashing. The installation channel—Gaijin launcher or Steam—and any recent changes to drivers, Windows, or background software can also help narrow the cause.
- Error 81110007 or a file-read message: start with installation verification.
- No error message: isolate antivirus and third-party software.
- Errors 81110005 or 81110014: follow the graphics-load steps for those codes.
- Error 81110003: check requirements and GPU selection; its VSync advice differs from the other graphics errors.
- Debugger warning or 8222000B socket error: use the separate Windows or network path below.
These are symptom-based starting points, not guaranteed diagnoses. Gaijin’s support pages provide separate instructions for each case.
Fix file-read errors and damaged game data
For error 81110007, Gaijin identifies corrupted or incomplete files as the most common cause. The client may also be unable to read data because of storage problems or interference from other software. Verify the installation before trying more disruptive changes. Gaijin’s 81110007 instructions describe the verification and follow-up checks.

- Gaijin launcher: use the launcher’s file-check or repair option to verify the installation. It checks for damaged or missing data and downloads replacements.
- Steam: open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files.
- Try the game again. If verification does not resolve the problem, consult Gaijin’s error-specific instructions for clearing cache, checking free space and the installation drive for errors, investigating security-software interference, or moving the game from removable storage to an internal drive.
For LoadException ("read error", tell()), Gaijin gives a separate cache-and-profile-file procedure. Its instructions identify files under local application data and DocumentsMy GamesWarThunder. Read the official LoadException instructions before deleting anything. Preserve copies of local files you may need, since deleting profile data can affect locally stored information.
Troubleshoot a crash with no error message
When the client closes without displaying an error, Gaijin recommends isolating possible software conflicts rather than assuming the game files are corrupt. Follow its silent-crash troubleshooting instructions in sequence:

- Test antivirus interference: temporarily disable antivirus only long enough to see whether the crash can be reproduced. Restore protection immediately after the test. Do not leave security software disabled as a routine workaround.
- If the crash continues, isolate background software: Gaijin’s procedure includes a test with anti-cheat disabled, followed by disabling third-party programs one at a time. Treat anti-cheat-off as a diagnostic test, not a way to play normally.
- Prioritize overlays and related tools: check overlay or capture software, including NVIDIA, Discord, Twitch, and MSI Afterburner tools. Change one item at a time and retry so you can identify whether the symptom changes.
- If it still fails, collect a debugger dump and submit a bug report following Gaijin’s instructions. Include the error details and circumstances of the crash.
Use the graphics fix that matches the error code
Errors 81110005 and 81110014
For these codes, Gaijin says high video-card load may be involved. Its recommended order is to lower graphics settings, close resource-intensive programs, turn off VSync, and then update the graphics driver if the issue remains. See Gaijin’s guidance for errors 81110005 and 81110014.
The same support page mentions BIOS video-memory settings and a Windows 7 compatibility option. These are legacy or advanced suggestions, not general first steps for current Windows PCs; consult the page only if they fit your system and situation.

Error 81110003
For 81110003, Gaijin instead recommends checking that the PC meets the game’s current system requirements, updating video drivers, and ensuring that War Thunder uses the intended GPU on a system with more than one GPU. It also advises enabling VSync in the launcher. That differs from the VSync-off advice for 81110005 and 81110014, so use the recommendation for the code shown rather than applying one VSync setting to every crash. If the message or circumstances point to a debugger running in the background, Gaijin says to disable Windows debugging and restart. This is a specific troubleshooting path, not a general startup fix. Follow the official debug-issue instructions only when the debugger issue matches; do not change boot configuration without that reason.

Separate connection failures from crashes
If War Thunder launches but reports 8222000B or a fatal socket initialization error, focus on network initialization rather than file corruption. Gaijin’s article lists resetting the TCP/IP stack, performing a clean boot, and checking the game’s required ports. Record the exact message and whether the client itself starts, then follow Gaijin’s 8222000B instructions. For other connection or update symptoms, use the technical-problems index to find the matching issue.
If the problem persists, prepare a useful support report
When the relevant steps do not help, a precise report is more useful than saying only that the game crashes. Follow Gaijin’s bug-report instructions and include:

- The exact error code or message—or that no message appears.
- When the failure occurs: launcher or update, client startup, loading, entering a match, or server connection.
- Whether you use the Gaijin launcher or Steam.
- Your Windows version and relevant hardware details, especially graphics hardware and whether the PC has multiple GPUs.
- Which relevant checks you tried and whether the behavior changed.
