Start with the installed edition and its requirements
The full game and Contraband Police: Prologue have separate Steam listings and different minimum RAM and storage requirements. Check the listing for the title actually installed rather than applying the Prologue’s lower figures to the full game.

These are store-listed requirements, not proof that a component is causing a particular crash or that upgrading it will fix one. Try low-risk checks first
Check for a Steam update
Look for a pending update for the game in Steam and allow it to finish before trying to launch again. Official announcements document patches and fixes, but they do not establish that a particular patch resolves every startup crash. You can review the official Contraband Police announcements; do not assume that an update is a confirmed fix for your specific failure.

Verify the game files
A Steam community thread suggests checking file integrity for a launch or window issue. Treat this as a diagnostic attempt, not a developer-confirmed solution. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, choose Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. When verification finishes, try launching once more. If it still crashes, preserve the diagnostic files described below rather than repeatedly changing or deleting game data.
Gather useful evidence if the crash persists
In a game-specific Steam discussion dated October 26, 2023, a developer-side respondent asked the player for crash dumps, game logs, and a DxDiag report. The request helps investigate the failure; it does not identify a universal cause. The folders below are the paths named in that discussion, and may not exist on every system:

AppData/Local/Temp/CrazyRocks/ContrabandPolice/Crashes. Look for files ending in.dmp. - Game logs:
AppData/LocalLow/CrazyRocks/ContrabandPolice. The requested files werePlayer.LogandPlayer-prev.log. - DxDiag report: Generate a DirectX Diagnostic report in Windows and keep it with the game files for your support request.
To open the AppData locations, press Win+R, enter %localappdata%TempCrazyRocksContrabandPoliceCrashes for the crash-dump folder or %userprofile%AppDataLocalLowCrazyRocksContrabandPolice for the logs, and press Enter. If a folder or file is absent, do not create or substitute one; report that it was not available. Follow current developer directions if the paths have changed.
When contacting support, include the exact installed edition, the point at which the failure occurs (immediately, during loading, or after reaching a menu), Windows version, hardware, recent changes, whether the issue began after an update, and which requested files exist. A repeatable error in a log or a crash dump can give support more to investigate than the description “won’t start” alone.

The developer-side respondent in that October 26, 2023 Steam discussion wrote, “Could you send us your logs to [email protected] so we can take a closer look?” That is a historical contact request, not confirmation that the address remains the current support channel. Use a current official support route and verify its details before sending files; no response time or outcome is guaranteed.
Handle save-file theories cautiously
One player reported that deleting a corrupted save fixed that individual launch problem. This is an isolated community report, not evidence that a damaged save is the usual cause. Do not delete saves as a first step: back them up, and consider testing a save-related explanation only if there is specific evidence pointing to a damaged save. Removing a save can cost progress.

What to record before asking for help
There is no evidence-backed ranking of startup-crash causes. Record the details that distinguish one case from another, without treating any one clue as a diagnosis:

- Whether the installed title is the full game or Prologue, and whether the PC meets that edition’s listed requirements.
- Whether the failure happens immediately on launch, during loading, or after a menu appears.
- Whether an update or another recent change preceded the symptom.
- Whether a crash dump is created and whether the logs contain a repeatable error.
- The exact error message, Windows version, hardware, and any steps that reliably reproduce the failure.
