First identify what “lag” means in your case. Low frame rates and visual hitching point to local PC performance; high or unstable latency, missing servers, failed joins, frozen players, and disconnections point to multiplayer or network trouble. Work through the matching checks below rather than assuming every symptom has the same cause.
Identify the symptom before troubleshooting
Note exactly what happens and when: for example, whether the server browser freezes, no servers appear, a join fails, players freeze, or the game loses its connection. Record whether the problem occurs on one server or across multiple attempts. For visual problems, note whether the frame rate drops or the image hitches even when the connection appears intact. The available guidance does not establish a universal in-game ping threshold for “bad” latency.
- Low FPS or visual hitching: start with the PC’s hardware and local performance.
- Missing servers, failed joins, freezes, kicks, or connection loss: start with security software and network checks.
- Problems limited to one server: compare with other available servers and consider distance and latency.
Fix server-browser, join, and connection failures
Check security software and firewall rules
In an article published April 8, 2021, Chivalry 2 Support addressed server-browser freezes, no servers displayed, failed joins, apparent connection loss, and players freezing or being kicked. For those listed symptoms, it says, “It is highly likely that security software is blocking/freezing the game.” Treat that as documented guidance for those cases, not a universal diagnosis or confirmation of a current outage. - Open your security software’s allow, exception, or ignore list and check whether Chivalry 2 is permitted.
- If the game is already listed but the problem continues, the support article advises removing it from the list and adding it again.
- Check your router’s security or firewall rules too. The article names
analytics.tripwireinteractive.com,tripwireinteractive.com,playfabapi.com, andepicgames.devfor permission or exclusion lists.
Use the controls in your security software to make the specific exceptions needed; do not turn off all protection as a blanket fix.

Compare server distance and connection stability
Try another available server and compare the latency shown by the game, if available. Steam’s general lag guidance notes that connecting to a geographically distant server can mean higher latency. That is a reason to compare server distance, not proof that any particular Chivalry 2 server is currently unhealthy. Steam Support: Troubleshooting Lag.
If you play over Wi-Fi, test with Ethernet if practical. Riot’s general PC connection guidance explains that wireless interference can cause lag spikes or packet loss and recommends wired Ethernet where possible to eliminate Wi-Fi as a variable. This is general network troubleshooting, not a Chivalry 2-specific fix. A wired test cannot by itself rule out server issues, ISP routing, or a security-software block. Check PC requirements if the problem is visual stutter or low FPS
Steam’s listed system requirements offer a baseline comparison for local performance. Meeting the recommended requirements is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, and a graphics card below the listed recommendation does not explain packet loss or a failed server connection.

When to contact Chivalry 2 Support
If the checks do not resolve the problem, the Chivalry 2 Support Portal provides ticket submission and PC knowledgebase categories for connection and matchmaking issues, as well as crashes and hangs. Include details that help distinguish a local issue from a server or network problem:
- Your storefront and region or server, if known.
- The exact error message or a concise description of the symptom.
- Whether it happens on one server or across multiple servers and attempts.
- When it occurs and any recent PC, network, or security-software changes.
- The checks you have already tried and what changed, if anything.
The cited sources do not establish a live server-health status or a support response time, so avoid treating an individual connection failure as proof of a wider outage.
