First work out whether “lag” means choppy graphics or a multiplayer connection problem: they point to different fixes. Stuttering or stuck movement inputs call for checking PC performance and graphics selection; trouble joining or disconnecting calls for checking whether security software is blocking Luma Island or Steam. Neither symptom alone proves that the game’s servers are at fault.
Identify which kind of lag you have

If more than one player is affected, compare what each PC experiences. A problem visible on just one PC makes that computer’s performance and graphics selection especially relevant; a join or disconnect issue calls for the connection checks below. These clues help narrow the investigation but do not identify a cause by themselves.
For choppy graphics or stuck inputs, check PC performance
Compare the PC with Steam’s listed requirements
Steam lists the following minimum and recommended specifications for Luma Island. They are the store listing’s stated requirements, not a guarantee that every PC meeting them will run smoothly in every multiplayer session.

Use the comparison to spot a likely performance constraint, especially if the game is stuttering on only one player’s PC. Meeting the minimum specification does not rule out a graphics or performance problem.

Make sure Windows selects the higher-performance GPU
Feel Free Games’ official help guidance covers crashes and graphics selection. On a PC that has more than one graphics adapter, the game may need to be assigned to the higher-performance one. This is a graphics check, not a fix for a failed join or network disconnection.
- Open Windows Device Manager and expand Display adapters to see whether the PC lists more than one graphics adapter.
- Open Windows Settings and go to System > Display > Graphics settings. The exact label can vary by Windows version.
- Add or select Luma Island.exe, open its graphics options, and choose the High performance GPU. Save the selection.
- Restart the game and check whether the graphics symptom changes.
For failed joins or disconnections, check security software
In a Steam discussion about a client disconnecting shortly after joining a local-network game, a Feel Free Games developer said antivirus or firewall software is often responsible and advised allowing both Luma Island and Steam. That advice addresses the reported connection failure; it is not a universal diagnosis for every multiplayer slowdown.

- Check your antivirus or firewall’s allowed-app list for both Luma Island and Steam.
- If either is missing, add it using the security product’s normal exception or allow-app process. Avoid leaving protection disabled as a workaround.
- Retry the same multiplayer action and note whether the join or disconnect symptom changes.
A Steam community commenter describes Luma Island multiplayer as peer-to-peer, but that is community commentary rather than an official network specification. It is reasonable to test whether a connection is contributing, but the available guidance does not establish that Wi-Fi is the cause of a particular problem. If you currently play over Wi-Fi, trying Ethernet can be an optional comparison—not a guaranteed fix, and not a remedy for choppy frame rate.
If symptoms start only after a long session
Official Steam news and release notes document past work on performance problems: one update said performance would remain stable during long play sessions rather than slowly degrading, and version 1.1.2 notes reported performance and memory improvements in most zones along with memory-leak fixes. Those notes show that the developer has addressed performance issues in updates; they do not establish the cause of a current problem or guarantee that every pattern is resolved.

Record when the symptom begins, whether it affects one or both PCs, and whether it is visual stutter or a connection failure. A November 30, 2024 player report described choppy frame rate and stuck movement inputs after 30–45 minutes in co-op, but it involved two Linux PCs running the game through Proton Experimental. That single report is an anecdote, not a general timing pattern or a Windows troubleshooting recipe.

If the issue persists, Feel Free Games’ support instructions ask players to create a report after encountering the bug and attach the zipped BugReport folder to a support ticket.

- After the bug occurs, press Ctrl+L in the game to generate the bug report.

BugReportfolder in that location. - Attach the ZIP file to a ticket through the Luma Island support portal.
The support page says the team prioritizes the most serious bugs affecting the most players. Include a concise description of what happened and when, along with whether the symptom was stuttering, stuck inputs, a failed join, or a disconnect; that makes the report easier to interpret.
