If Aliens vs. Predator crashes on PC, start with SEGA’s general launch checks, then test any community-reported workaround that matches your specific symptom—one change at a time. There is no verified universal fix: the useful next step depends on whether the game fails before its launcher, while loading, or at a repeatable moment during play.
Confirm which Aliens vs. Predator is crashing
This guide is for the 2010 Windows release of Aliens vs. Predator, developed by Rebellion and published by SEGA—not another game with the same name. Steam lists it as app ID 10680 and provides a dedicated technical support page.
Steam’s original listing gives historical minimum requirements of Windows XP or Vista, a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent, 1 GB RAM for XP or 2 GB for Vista, a DirectX 9.0c-compliant graphics card with 128 MB RAM, and 16 GB of free storage. Those old specifications do not establish which current Windows versions or hardware are supported today.
Pin down when the crash happens
Before changing settings, note the failure point. A crash before the launcher, after selecting a graphics mode, on a particular loading screen, or during a repeatable in-game action can point toward different tests. Record your Windows version, GPU and driver, selected launch mode, and the exact error text, if any. The available sources do not identify one cause that explains every crash.

Try the official baseline checks first
SEGA’s PC launch troubleshooting guidance is general advice, not a confirmed game-specific repair. It says antivirus interference can affect Steam or a game during installation or launch, and recommends keeping Windows updates, DirectX, and .NET Framework installed and up to date.
- Check whether antivirus software is interfering with Steam or the game. Avoid disabling protection broadly; follow your security software’s guidance for investigating a suspected block.
- Install available Windows updates and ensure DirectX and .NET Framework are installed and current.
- Retest the game before trying another change, so you can tell whether the result changed.
Use community workarounds only when they match the symptom
Players have reported several additional options, but these are anecdotal rather than official or guaranteed fixes. The Steam Community troubleshooting guide mentions compatibility settings, launching the included launcher once, verifying game files after modified executables, and changing CPU affinity for crashes while firing. A separate Steam discussion reports that switching to DirectX 9 resolved one player’s issue.

- Crash while firing: The CPU-affinity adjustment is reported for this particular symptom. It is not established as a general startup or loading fix.
- Modified executable or game files: The community guide recommends verifying the game files after modifying executables. Do not download replacement executables or patches from unverified sources; their safety and necessity are not established here.
- Launcher or compatibility issue: The guide reports trying compatibility settings or opening the included launcher once. Treat either as a reversible experiment, not a proven solution.
- Graphics-mode problem: One player reported success after switching to DirectX 9. Preserve the original setting so you can revert if the test does not help.
Change only one setting between tests. Applying several fixes together makes it harder to identify what helped—and what caused a new problem.

If the baseline checks and a narrowly matched, reversible test do not help, use Steam’s technical support flow for Aliens vs. Predator. Include when the crash occurs, the error message, Windows version, GPU and driver, launch mode, and the steps already tried. That information helps distinguish a startup failure from a crash tied to a particular setting or moment in gameplay.
