There is no official, current universal ranking of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 artifacts. The most useful choices depend on what you need from a loadout: staying alive, moving farther, carrying loot, or supporting a specific combat style. This editorial ranking favors practical survival and exploration, while calling out drawbacks and the patch changes that make older rankings unreliable.
Best artifacts for a practical all-around loadout
The ranking below is a decision guide, not an official tier list. It prioritizes effects that can solve recurring problems during exploration and combat, but the official sources do not provide a complete current artifact-by-artifact dataset for scoring every item. Where the exact current effect or radiation cost is not established in the cited official notes, it is marked accordingly rather than guessed.

| Rank | Artifact | Main benefit | Drawback or radiation cost | Best use | Version and source note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Weird Ball | Stamina gain and increased maximum artifact weight; its weight gain when shot was also slowed in Patch 1.3. | Exact current radiation burden and effect values are not stated in the cited notes. | Exploration and carrying a heavier load, especially when movement and loot capacity matter. | GSC Patch 1.3 changed these effects; see Patch 1.3 notes. |
| 2 | Weird Water | Radiation protection. | Its radiation protection was decreased in Patch 1.3; the current magnitude and its own radiation cost are not stated in the cited notes. | Consider it when radiation protection is the need, but do not assume older guides describe its current strength. | GSC Patch 1.3 reduced its radiation protection; see Patch 1.3 notes. |
| 3 | Weird Nut | Can help with bleeding, according to the Patch 1.3 description of its bleeding-related effect. | Patch 1.3 increased bleeding degeneration speed and further slowed healing while it is equipped. | A situational pick for a player prepared to manage the healing trade-off. | GSC Patch 1.3 changed its bleeding and healing behavior; see Patch 1.3 notes. |
| 4 | Weird Flower | Stronger smell-masking effect after Patch 1.3. | Exact duration, radiation cost, and overall stealth impact are not stated in the cited notes. | Situational stealth-oriented play, where its masking effect is useful. | GSC Patch 1.3 increased its smell-masking effect; see Patch 1.3 notes. |
| 5 | Weird Kettle | Food-related debuffs became predictable by food type after Patch 1.3. | Specific foods, debuffs, and radiation cost are not stated in the cited notes. | Useful only if you want a food-related effect and can plan around the now-predictable debuff. | GSC Patch 1.3 made the food debuff predictable by food type; see Patch 1.3 notes. |
| 6 | Horn | Can provide chemical and radiation protection. | Both chemical and radiation protection were decreased in Patch 1.5; exact current values are not stated in the captured notes. | Consider for protection needs only after checking its current in-game effect and balancing its drawbacks. | GSC Patch 1.5 changed its effects; the cited page excerpt does not show a publication date. See Patch 1.5 notes. |
| 7 | Rosin | Its weak weight effect was replaced by weak endurance in Patch 1.5. | The replacement is described as weak; radiation cost and exact values are not stated in the cited notes. | A lower-priority option if endurance suits your build and you have no stronger alternative. | GSC Patch 1.5 changed its effect; the cited page excerpt does not show a publication date. See Patch 1.5 notes. |
| 8 | Shell | Its weak radiation effect was replaced by weak endurance in Patch 1.5. | It no longer has the weak radiation effect described before that change; exact current values and radiation cost are not stated in the cited notes. | Only a candidate when endurance is the attribute you want, not as a radiation-protection pick based on older descriptions. | GSC Patch 1.5 changed its effect; the cited page excerpt does not show a publication date. See Patch 1.5 notes. |
The order is a practical editorial judgment built from documented effects and changes, not a claim that these eight are the complete artifact catalogue. The official guide describes artifacts broadly as having special properties—such as radiation protection, stamina, healing, or making the player more vulnerable—but does not publish a complete ranked list. See GSC’s artifact guide.
Choose by the problem you need to solve
For travel and carrying loot
Weird Ball is the strongest documented fit in this ranking for an exploration-focused loadout: Patch 1.3 explicitly increased its stamina gain and maximum artifact weight. That makes it the clearest pick here when mobility and carrying capacity are the priorities. The patch notes do not give the resulting numeric values, so compare its live in-game description with your other options instead of relying on an older figure.

#1 Best Overall
For radiation protection
Weird Water and Horn are the artifacts in this ranking with documented radiation-protection effects. Both have been weakened: Patch 1.3 reduced Weird Water’s radiation protection, and Patch 1.5 reduced Horn’s. Check the current description in your game before deciding which belongs in a loadout; the cited notes do not establish their present numerical strength or a direct comparison.
For healing or status-effect management
Weird Nut is not a simple healing choice. Patch 1.3 says its bleeding degeneration speed was increased and that healing with the equipped artifact was further slowed. That trade-off makes it a specialized pick rather than a safe default for players who need dependable recovery.
For stealth or food planning
Patch 1.3 increased Weird Flower’s smell-masking effect and made Weird Kettle’s food debuff predictable by food type. Those changes support situational use, but the cited notes do not provide enough detail to quantify their impact or compare them with other artifacts.

How artifact radiation and detectors affect your choices
Artifact effects can help or harm: GSC’s official guide says one artifact might protect against radiation, provide stamina, or heal wounds, while another can make the player more vulnerable. Most artifacts are radioactive, and some can counteract radiation from other equipped artifacts. That means an artifact’s benefit should be judged alongside its radiation burden and the rest of the equipment you wear, rather than as a standalone stat.

The official guide says the Echo indicates direction and distance, while Veles reveals the artifact’s exact location. Finding an artifact therefore depends on both having a detector and interpreting its signals; the artifact’s value alone does not tell you how easy it will be to locate.

Artifact advice is patch-sensitive. In Patch 1.3, GSC changed multiple effects and fixed a bug that could permanently stack effects from unequipped artifacts. Patch 1.5 then changed Horn, Rosin, and Shell and introduced a Durability artifact effect that increases equipped gear durability. A ranking that predates those changes may describe a different balance state.

GSC’s latest surfaced official update is Update 2.0, dated September 1, 2026. Its notes describe more than 500 bug fixes and mention an artifact inventory-stacking fix, but do not establish a new artifact balance pass or a universal tier list. See Update 2.0 notes. That means the documented 1.3 and 1.5 changes remain important context; Update 2.0 should not be read as evidence that every artifact was rebalanced.
How to build a sensible artifact loadout
- Pick the problem first. Decide whether the run calls for stamina and carrying capacity, radiation protection, or a situational effect such as smell masking.
- Read the current item description. Confirm the benefit and harmful effects in your game instead of trusting a ranking written before Patch 1.3 or 1.5.
- Account for radiation across equipped artifacts. Consider whether another equipped artifact can counteract the radiation burden, and avoid evaluating each item in isolation.
- Use the detector information to judge practicality. Echo helps with direction and distance; Veles provides the exact artifact location, according to GSC’s guide.
- Reassess after patches. Official notes document changes to artifact effects, so revisit a build when an update changes an item or its inventory behavior.
GSC’s official guide explains that artifacts occupy armor slots and can combine benefits with harmful trade-offs. The number and arrangement of available slots depend on the armor, so a theoretically useful artifact still has to fit the loadout you can actually equip.
