The official announcement names SMGs, shotguns, and revolvers, but publishes no weapon-level damage, accuracy, reload, or win-rate comparisons. The most useful way to choose is to weigh a drop’s Origin tradeoffs against how you want to fight—not to trust an unsupported tier list.
What Open Playtest #2 establishes
The developers announced Open Playtest #2 on December 2, 2025, and identified three weapon archetypes: SMGs, shotguns, and revolvers. The announcement does not rank them or provide comparable performance figures, so it cannot establish which archetype—or individual gun—is strongest.
Instead, the developer’s weapon-diversity post describes randomized Origins as modifiers that shape a weapon’s stats and playstyle. Its examples offer useful comparison points, but they are qualitative descriptions, not a complete numerical specification of the second-playtest build.
Compare the Origin tradeoffs on your drop
Abyss: firing speed versus control
Abyss is described as fast-firing but having chaotic spread. That may appeal if you value a rapid stream of shots; if predictable aiming matters more to you, look for a more controlled drop. The description does not establish that Abyss deals more damage overall.

Infernal: damage versus reload downtime
Infernal is described as high-damage, with a slow reload and small magazine. Consider whether the damage potential is worth the more frequent reload interruptions. No figures are provided to quantify its burst damage or compare it with other Origins.
Bloodied: magazine size versus a long reload
Bloodied is described as having a very large magazine and a long reload. The tradeoff is between fewer reloads during sustained firing and a longer window when you do need to reload.

Warborn: precision and range
Warborn is described as precise and long-ranged. Consider it if accuracy and reach fit your approach, but do not read those traits as evidence that it has the highest damage or best overall performance.
Doomforged: a balanced baseline
Doomforged is described as balanced. That makes it a useful contrast when weighing a more specialized weapon, but the source does not define exact stats or say that it is the safest or strongest choice.

A practical way to choose
- Start with the weapon you actually found. Note its archetype and Origin. The playtest announcement confirms SMGs, shotguns, and revolvers, while the developer’s examples show how Origins can change a weapon’s character.
- Pick the tradeoff you can live with. If spread, reload downtime, magazine size, precision, or range is the deciding factor for you, use the Origin descriptions above as a qualitative guide.
- Judge the whole drop, not its label. An archetype name alone cannot tell you how the individual weapon performs. The available playtest sources do not supply enough numbers to settle close comparisons.
What changed after the playtest—and what is current-game context
In its weapon-diversity post, the development team said differences in the first playtest had not felt strong enough and that it was working toward sharper stat variation and distinctive visuals for the next playtest. That is design context, not a numerical balance report confirming the final properties of every Open Playtest #2 weapon.
The current Steam listing describes generated weapons with unique stats, traits, and Origins, plus Forge fusion, perk combinations, and stat rerolls. Those features can affect a weapon’s potential in the released game, but the listing does not prove that every feature worked identically in the historical second playtest. The Steam listing identifies Pushka Studios as developer, Assemble Entertainment as publisher, and March 16, 2026 as the release date; the PlayStation Store lists the PS5 version with the same release date.

Can the sources identify a best gun?
No. The official announcement confirms archetypes, and the developer post gives qualitative Origin tradeoffs; neither supplies the performance comparisons needed to name a winner. There are no supported damage, DPS, reload, accuracy, drop-rate, or win-rate figures here. Any claim that a particular archetype or Origin is objectively best would go beyond the available evidence.
