It is useful against high-speed projectiles and, according to community documentation, some other hazards—but it is not a general-purpose barrier: fire and gas damage are not blocked, and the shield can fail. In particular, the available evidence does not establish that it prevents the G-23 Stun area’s slow effect.
What the SH-32 does
The SH-32 is a backpack stratagem. Its Ship Management Terminal description, quoted by The Helldivers Wiki, says: “Encloses the wearer in a spherical shield which blocks high-speed projectiles. Has a limited lifetime once deployed.” That is the clearest concise statement of its intended role: a temporary personal shield, not permanent immunity.

Community documentation describes protection extending beyond the terminal’s projectile wording to some melee, explosive, arc, and environmental effects. These additional interactions are community-maintained rather than a complete official specification, so treat them as practical reports, not a guarantee that every attack of those types will be stopped.
Does it stop the G-23 Stun area slow?
That specific interaction is not established by the available evidence. A February 21, 2025 Steam Community discussion asks whether the SH-32 prevents slowing in the G-23 Stun area, but the discussion itself is not authoritative confirmation. The wiki describes protection from some weather slow effects; that does not prove protection from this stun effect.

Arrowhead’s September 18, 2024 Steam-published hotfix record says a bug affecting shield protection from storm effects such as acid storms, sandstorms, and blizzards was fixed. This confirms a historical storm-protection fix, not the SH-32’s current interaction with the G-23. If that slow is mission-critical, do not count on the backpack to prevent it.
Fire, gas, and hazards inside the bubble
Fire and gas damage
Community documentation says fire and gas damage are not blocked. Do not rely on the SH-32 to protect you from a fire or gas projectile’s damage, or from fire on the ground. The shield’s broad appearance should not be mistaken for coverage against every damage type.
Other reported limits
The wiki also notes that large objects and damage occurring inside the bubble can affect protection. The documented interactions are not a promise of complete coverage in every combat situation; hazards can still reach or affect the wearer through circumstances the shield does not stop.

How recharge is reported to work
The Helldivers Wiki’s current stat table lists 150 shield capacity, a 60-second delay before regeneration after damage that does not break the shield, a 12-second delay after the bubble breaks, and regeneration at 150 shield health per second. These figures are disputed on the wiki’s talk page: a March 2026 exchange distinguishes backpack health from shield capacity and gives conflicting capacity and timing values. The disagreement has not been resolved by the evidence available here, so the listed numbers should be treated as unconfirmed community values, not settled current in-game stats.

The practical point is clearer than the exact numbers: a hit does not necessarily mean the shield immediately refills, and a broken bubble is not permanent protection lost forever. Expect a downtime window before it returns, and use cover or reposition rather than assuming the shield will absorb the next hit. The community discussion also reflects player confusion about regeneration timing, reinforcing why exact delays should not be relied on without checking the current in-game behavior.

The Helldivers Wiki lists the SH-32 as a Supply-type backpack stratagem unlocked at level 20 for 10,000 requisition slips. It lists a 9.75-second call-in, unlimited uses, and a 480-second base cooldown, with reductions available from certain ship modules. These are version-sensitive community reference values and may change with patches; consult the current ship management terminal for the values in your build.

When the backpack is worth a slot
The SH-32 is most attractive when the mission’s likely threats include projectiles or environmental effects it is reported to stop, and when the wearer benefits from a personal buffer while moving or fighting. Its value falls if the key danger is fire, gas, the unresolved G-23 slow interaction, or damage that bypasses or occurs inside the bubble.
Choosing it also means spending your backpack slot on this protection rather than another loadout option. The available evidence does not support a detailed ranking against alternative stratagems; decide based on the hazards in the mission, the shield’s downtime, and what else your squad needs. Do not treat it as universally best or as a substitute for avoiding danger.

Availability and version caveat
On September 18, 2024, Arrowhead’s hotfix notes said the SH-32 had accidentally been issued from General Brasch’s stash and that regular shields would resume distribution. This is historical context, not evidence of a current availability problem. The detailed shield mechanics and numerical stats discussed above are community-maintained, and some values are expressly disputed; patch changes can make them outdated.
