Exploding Kittens VR was announced for a fall 2024 release, then launched on Meta Quest on October 3, 2024. Saber Interactive’s launch notice lists Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro; the game supports matches of up to five players, solo play against bots and a social hub for up to 15.
When did Exploding Kittens VR come out?
Saber Interactive announced Exploding Kittens VR on June 25, 2024, with a planned fall release on Quest 2 and Quest 3. On September 16, Saber set the date for October 3 and added Quest Pro to the platform list. The game was announced as available on all three headsets on October 3, 2024. Saber’s original announcement, release-date notice and launch notice establish that timeline.
So “fall release” describes the 2024 announcement, not a future launch window. Saber’s support FAQ describes the game as live on Meta. The sources establish its launch and supported headset models, but do not establish current regional store pricing or availability. Saber’s FAQ lists Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro, Meta Quest Touch Controllers, and English.
Can you play Exploding Kittens VR with friends?
Yes. Saber describes online matches for up to five players, as well as a solo option against bots. The social hub is a separate gathering space that can host up to 15 players; that is a hub capacity, not the size of a match. The official launch notice also describes avatar customization and social mini-games.

Match types and play
Classic and Blitz matches support up to five players, while Duel is designed for two rivals. The premise follows the card game: avoid drawing an Exploding Kitten and try to be the last player standing. Saber says players can look ahead, steal items, block moves and defuse a kitten. The announcement explains the broad format, while Saber’s release-date notice names the modes.
What do you need to play?
You need a supported Meta Quest headset and Quest Touch Controllers. Saber lists Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro in its support FAQ; its initial June announcement named Quest 2 and Quest 3, with Quest Pro included in the later release and launch notices. The title is a digital VR adaptation of the physical card game, not a mode that requires owning the tabletop version. Saber announced it as a licensed adaptation under license from Asmodee Entertainment, with Saber as publisher.

The VR title adapts the social-strategy card game for headset play. Saber’s launch notice says the original physical game first released in 2015. The two are separate products: the sources do not state that buying the tabletop game is required to play the VR version. The Exploding Kittens digital-games page also describes the VR title as an online experience for up to five players or solo play against bots, with a social hub, mini-games and avatar customization.
