For the main Saints Row play order, follow the legacy games by release sequence: Saints Row, Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV, then Saints Row: Gat out of Hell. Saints Row (2022) is a separate reboot, so you can play it without knowing the older story.
Saints Row games in release order
- Saints Row — The first game in the legacy continuity.
- Saints Row 2 — The second legacy entry.
- Saints Row: The Third — The third main entry. Remastered editions are re-releases, not separate story installments.
- Saints Row IV — The next legacy entry. Later re-releases and bundles do not add a new sequel to the sequence.
- Saints Row: Gat out of Hell — A standalone expansion associated with Saints Row IV. Play it after IV if you want the broader legacy sequence.
This is a practical release-order guide to the principal games and the prominent standalone expansion. It is not a claim about the order of events within the fictional timeline.
Where Saints Row (2022) fits
Saints Row (2022) is a complete reboot, not the next chapter of the older continuity. Deep Silver Volition described it as having new characters, a new setting, and a new tone. The game is set in Santo Ileso, a fictional city in the American Southwest. (PlayStation.Blog announcement)
You can play the 2022 game on its own or before or after the legacy series; it does not require the earlier games’ story. The developer announced PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions in 2021, but the February 25, 2022 date in that announcement was a planned date, not the final launch date. A PlayStation Singapore listing gives August 23, 2022; treat that as the date shown for that listing, not a universal regional date. (PlayStation Singapore listing)

Do you need to play the Saints Row games in order?
No. Playing the five legacy titles in sequence is the clearest way to follow that continuity, but you can start with any game if you are mainly interested in its setting or style. The 2022 reboot is independent of the older story, making it a straightforward starting point if you want a fresh continuity.

- For the legacy story: Play Saints Row, Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV, then Gat out of Hell.
- For a standalone entry: Start with Saints Row (2022); its rebooted cast and setting do not continue the older plot.
- For the shortest route through the older series: Play the four numbered legacy entries, then add Gat out of Hell if you want the associated standalone expansion.
Store availability and editions vary by region and can change. Deep Silver’s current game page links to PC and console storefronts; check the store for your platform and region for current versions and listings. (Deep Silver Saints Row page) The publisher describes the 2022 game as featuring character customization and “over 80 rides”; that figure is a promotional feature claim for the reboot, not a count for the series as a whole.
