No lawsuit had been filed as of April 8, 2025, according to Movie Games. The publisher of Drug Dealer Simulator said it had opened an investigation into similarities with Schedule I after a preliminary legal analysis suggested possible infringement. That was the publisher’s account of an inquiry—not a court finding that infringement occurred.
What Movie Games said about Schedule I
In a statement posted to the Drug Dealer Simulator Steam news page on April 8, 2025, publisher Movie Games wrote: “There is no lawsuit.” The statement addressed a growing impression that the publisher had already taken TVGS, the developer of Schedule I, to court.
Movie Games said it had begun “an investigation into the nature of similarities between the games” because a preliminary legal analysis indicated there might have been infringement. The statement describes the publisher’s reasoning and the existence of an investigation; it does not establish that infringement occurred or that a court assessed the games.
The publisher also said: “It is not our intention to prevent TVGS from selling or developing their game.” It said Movie Games was handling the investigation and that developer Byterunners was not involved.

Why Drug Dealer Simulator received negative reviews
Contemporaneous coverage by PC Gamer reported that Drug Dealer Simulator and Drug Dealer Simulator 2 were receiving negative Steam reviews amid the controversy. Some reviews reacted as though a lawsuit had already been filed, although Movie Games’ statement said otherwise.
Those reports describe review activity at the time of publication in April 2025. They do not establish the games’ current Steam ratings or review totals.
How the later Byterunners dispute differs
In September and October 2025, PCGamesN reported a separate disagreement between Movie Games and Byterunners over whether the developer was entitled to a share of revenue from console ports and how their contract applied. The parties agreed Byterunners had not worked on those ports, while disputing whether it was entitled to revenue.
That reported dispute concerned Movie Games and Byterunners, and console-port revenue. It was not the April 2025 investigation into similarities involving TVGS’s Schedule I.

What is known about the lawsuit status now
A LawFold explainer updated July 16, 2026 said no formal lawsuit against Schedule I had been filed as of its update. That is secondary reporting; the available account here is not independently confirmed by a court docket or a current company disclosure. The firmest directly attributed statement remains Movie Games’ April 8, 2025 assurance that there was no lawsuit at that time.
