Reject it if you would rather receive a bonus Ability Point for the Fighter, Ranger, or Wizard trees. The choice is a trade between a specific combat ability and a point you can spend more flexibly.
What happens if you accept Sapadal’s gift?
After the Voice is revealed as Sapadal during Ancient Soil, accepting grants Thorn of Sapadal, an active Godlike ability. It fires an energy thorn through multiple enemies and briefly roots them. Consider it if you want another crowd-hitting attack with a control effect.
What happens if you reject it?
Rejecting grants Godlike’s Will, which provides one bonus Ability Point for the Fighter, Ranger, or Wizard ability trees. Choose this if you would rather direct a point into one of those trees than add Thorn of Sapadal to your combat options.
Which choice should you make?
There is no universally better reward established by the available guides: Thorn offers a distinct active attack, while Godlike’s Will gives you a skill point to allocate. Base the decision on whether Thorn fits your combat approach or the extra point is more useful for your build.

Quest-order warning for Emerald Stair
PC Gamer notes that completing this step immediately triggers a separate story event tied to exploring Emerald Stair. If you want the favorable outcome described in that guide, handle the Steel Garrote first: clear its camp behind the waterfall at River Fork Beacon or complete Steel Resolve at Ranger Headquarters. This is a quest-order warning, not a consequence attributed to accepting or rejecting Sapadal’s gift. See PC Gamer’s Ancient Soil guide for the details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does this choice affect Avowed’s ending?
The cited guides establish the immediate reward for this specific Ancient Soil choice, but do not establish that accepting or rejecting the gift changes the ending. Sapadal makes offers in other quests, and those decisions—including the Naku Kubel decision—are separate from this one.
