If you play on a Windows PC and don’t need Xbox console access or cloud gaming, PC Game Pass is the straightforward choice. Choose Game Pass Ultimate if you’ll regularly use its console access, supported-device cloud gaming, online console multiplayer, or added benefits. At the US prices listed by Xbox on October 8, 2026, Ultimate costs $9 more per month; check your local Xbox checkout price because prices and benefits vary by region and can change.

Which plan fits how you play?
Choose PC Game Pass if you play on Windows PC
If your reason for subscribing is downloading and playing PC games, PC Game Pass covers that use case without paying for console and streaming access you may not need. It includes EA Play and select day-one releases, so neither is a reason by itself to upgrade to Ultimate.

Choose Ultimate if you’ll use console or cloud access
Ultimate is the better fit if you play on an Xbox console, want online multiplayer on console, or expect to stream games on a supported device. Cloud streaming is available through routes Xbox lists such as phones and tablets, selected smart TVs, Meta VR headsets, and a web browser. Check current device and regional compatibility before subscribing; having a device or browser does not by itself ensure the service is available to you.
Check your must-play games before deciding
Look up each game in Xbox’s live library and verify that it is available for your platform and plan. Headline catalog counts are changing product-page descriptors, not promises that a particular game will remain available. Xbox also says its select day-one offer has exceptions, including Call of Duty titles.

How much more does Ultimate cost?
On October 8, 2026, Xbox’s US plan pages listed PC Game Pass at $13.99 per month and Ultimate at $22.99 per month, a difference of $9 per month before tax. These are US prices shown by Xbox on that date, not a universal or guaranteed price. Your country, taxes, account eligibility, offers, and billing terms can affect the amount you pay. Confirm the price at local checkout rather than relying on an older listing.
Promotional pricing may be limited by eligibility or region and may renew at the then-current regular rate. Xbox says subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. To avoid another charge, cancel through your Microsoft account or on an Xbox console before your next billing date. Xbox’s comparison page says price increases may be made with at least 30 days’ notice under Microsoft Store terms. Check Xbox’s current plan comparison and terms.

A quick decision rule
- PC games only: Start with PC Game Pass.
- Console play, console multiplayer, or supported-device streaming: Consider Ultimate if you’ll use those features regularly.
- Undecided: Compare the local monthly prices, confirm your must-play games are included for your platform, and weigh the specific Ultimate benefits you expect to use against the added cost.
There is no universal winner: the upgrade is worthwhile when Ultimate’s additional access and benefits are worth its extra cost to you. EA Play and select day-one releases are shared benefits, not Ultimate-only reasons to pay more.
