1. Pin down when the crash happens
Write down what you see immediately before the failure and any error message. The distinction matters: Mega Crit’s rendering-driver advice is specifically for a black screen, while a crash during a run may need to be reported with logs. Treat a missing or damaged save as a separate progress issue, not as a reason to delete files while diagnosing a general crash.
- Launch failure: the game will not open or exits before the title screen.
- Black screen: the game opens but displays no usable image.
- In-run crash: the game closes or stops responding after a run has started.
- Progress or mod problem: a save is missing, or the problem began after removing a mod. Use the relevant save or mod guidance in Mega Crit’s official troubleshooting post, and back up saves before experimenting.
2. Compare your PC with the published requirements
Steam’s listing gives these Windows requirements for Slay the Spire 2. They are published specifications, not a guarantee that the game will run without crashes.

These figures come from the Steam store listing. If your PC falls below the minimum, note that when reporting the crash; meeting the minimum alone does not rule out a software or game issue.

3. Restart Steam and your PC
Close the game and Steam, restart Windows, then open Steam and try again. This is a basic diagnostic check, not a fix confirmed by Mega Crit for this game. If the same crash returns, move on rather than repeating the restart.
4. Check Steam for a game update
In Steam, open Library, right-click Slay the Spire 2, and choose Properties. Under Updates, check that updates are enabled; then let Steam download any available update before launching again. The game is listed as Early Access, and its store description says development includes bug fixes and broader hardware compatibility. An update may not address your particular crash, so record the game’s current version when you report it.

5. For a black screen, try Mega Crit’s rendering-driver guidance
Mega Crit’s pinned troubleshooting post recommends changing the rendering driver for a black-screen problem and links to instructions. Follow that linked guidance rather than guessing at a launch option or command; the post is the game-specific source for the procedure. If changing the driver does not help, continue to the log and reporting steps.

6. Collect logs and send them to Mega Crit
For Windows, the official post identifies the log folder as %APPDATA%SlayTheSpire2logs. Paste that path into File Explorer’s address bar to open it. The post also says you can retrieve logs with the in-game console command getlogs, when the console is available.

Send the logs with a concise description of the crash to Mega Crit through the support channel on its Discord or by email at [email protected]. Include when the crash occurs, what you have already tried, and any error message. Steam lists the email as the game’s support contact; its technical-issue page is another route for Steam support information.

7. Decide whether to try the public-beta branch
Mega Crit says the public-beta branch receives updates more frequently than the main branch and may contain fixes. The developer does not claim it resolves every crash. Back up your saves before switching branches, and choose based on your tolerance for using a beta build:

Mega Crit says the in-game report supplies useful troubleshooting data. Use F2 in-game or the report option in Settings. Describe the exact symptom and timing, and include the logs you collected if the reporting flow allows it. If the game cannot stay open long enough to report, use the support email or Discord route in step 6.

For a save-recovery issue or a problem that began after removing a mod, follow the specific instructions in the official troubleshooting post instead of applying general crash steps to save files.
