If V dies during Cyberpunk 2077’s secret solo assault on Arasaka Tower, the mission ends in credits; there is no save during that run. But “losing the last fight” is not a universal finale outcome: the route you choose with Johnny determines which missions and fights you face, and one ending deliberately skips the battle altogether. After the credits, One More Gig lets you return to before the final mission and try another ending.
What happens if V dies during the secret final assault?
On the secret route, Don’t Fear the Reaper, V attacks Arasaka Tower alone. PC Gamer’s endings guide says you cannot save during this mission: if V dies, the game goes to credits rather than offering a normal retry checkpoint. If V survives the assault, the finale continues to another ending decision; surviving the fight does not itself determine V’s ultimate fate.

Does every ending include a last fight?
No. The final mission conversation with Johnny determines which path V takes, and those paths lead to different missions and outcomes. The suicide ending, called Path of Least Resistance, skips the finale missions and Adam Smasher fight: V ends their life with a handgun, then the game goes to credits and character messages. GameSpot’s ending guide describes this route alongside the other base-game paths.
Other routes involve Hanako and Arasaka, Panam and the Aldecaldos, or Johnny and Rogue. The fights and companions vary by route, and several paths reach Mikoshi before presenting another decision about V’s body. So “lose the last fight” could mean a player defeat during a particular mission, or choosing a narrative ending in which V dies; they are different outcomes.

What happens after the credits?
After the ending, choose One More Gig to return to the point before Nocturne OP55N1, the final mission. PowerPyx’s ending guide describes this as a way to replay the finale and choose another ending. It is a return to the pre-finale point, not a promise of a checkpoint inside a fight.

- Want to attempt the secret solo assault? Be aware that the cited guide reports no saving during Don’t Fear the Reaper and credits if V dies.
- Want to avoid the final fight? The suicide ending skips the finale missions, but it is a deliberate narrative choice, not a combat-loss alternative.
- Want to see another ending afterward? Use One More Gig after credits to return to before Nocturne OP55N1.
These details are established for the base-game routes described by the cited guides. They do not establish that every boss defeat behaves identically in every current version, or how defeat works in Phantom Liberty’s additional ending. A VULKK guide updated for Update 2.3 discusses Adam Smasher’s combat mechanics, including melee attacks and a Sandevistan phase, but does not establish a universal defeat-and-retry rule; see its Adam Smasher boss guide.
