There are two Simon encounters commonly described in guides: an optional Act 3 fight in The Abyss and a Simon portrait in the Endless Tower, available after defeating the original Simon in The Abyss. This walkthrough focuses on the Endless Tower portrait, whose second phase can force your main party out of the fight. Prepare your reserves before approaching the portrait.
Which Simon encounter is this?
The Endless Tower portrait encounter is not the same as the optional Act 3 boss in The Abyss described by the community Expedition 33 Wiki. Game8 says the portrait appears after you defeat the original Simon in The Abyss. The wiki places its separate optional encounter in The Abyss during Act 3.

That distinction matters: the party transition, attack cues, and exact reward list below are attributed to Game8’s Endless Tower account. The wiki does not establish those same details for the Abyss encounter.
How to reach the Endless Tower portrait
- Defeat the original Simon in The Abyss to meet the progression requirement Game8 gives for the portrait.
- In the Endless Tower, climb the stairs past the canvas.
- Grapple to the next platform, continue to the end, and interact with Simon’s portrait.
Prepare the whole roster, not just your main party
Game8 reports that Simon removes the main party in phase two, leaving reserve characters to fight. If only your preferred team is developed, that transition can turn an otherwise manageable encounter into a roster check.

- Upgrade weapons across your roster before entering, rather than spending all resources on the starting team.
- Equip reserves for both damage and survivability so they can contribute immediately after the switch.
- Practice dodging and parrying with the characters you expect to use; the fight’s key cues reward reading timing rather than relying on an elemental counter.
The Expedition 33 Wiki lists no elemental weakness, resistance, absorption, or immunity for its Abyss version. Game8 likewise lists none for the Endless Tower portrait. The wiki’s general preparation advice is to emphasize damage output, survivability, current weapon upgrades, and parry timing; treat that as guide advice, not a guaranteed build formula.
Read the pillar lights and respond to the combo
Use the lights to anticipate follow-ups
For the Endless Tower fight, Game8 says the lights behind Simon indicate follow-up attacks: white signals the sword, while cyan, red, and yellow signal other follow-ups. The attacks come from left to right. If a color is absent, the corresponding hit is skipped, so do not dodge or parry an attack that is not signaled.

Save your cleanest timing for Light Speed’s final hit
Game8 identifies the last strike of Light Speed as the critical defense check: dodge or parry it. In its account, if that hit connects, the party is forcibly removed, bypassing the revive effects named in the guide. This warning is specific to the Endless Tower portrait encounter described by Game8; it should not be assumed to describe every Simon fight.
