Slay the Spire II launched in Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. The date is now past: Mega Crit confirmed the game was available on Steam on launch day. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, and can be played solo or in online co-op with up to four players. (Mega Crit’s announcement; Steam)
When did Slay the Spire II enter Early Access?
Mega Crit announced the March 5, 2026 date on February 19, then confirmed on March 5 that Slay the Spire II was available on Steam. The developer’s FAQ had listed a planned launch time of 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time; that was launch information, not a continuing availability schedule. (announcement; launch post; FAQ)
Where can you play it?
The Early Access release is on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Mega Crit’s FAQ says console and mobile versions were expected only after the Early Access period, so the Steam launch should not be read as a simultaneous release on those platforms. Platform plans can change; Steam is the relevant listing for the PC release. (Mega Crit FAQ; Steam store page)
Do you need to have played the first game?
No. Mega Crit says prior experience with Slay the Spire is not required. The sequel is a roguelike deckbuilder, and its Steam description lists five playable characters. (launch post; Steam store page)

How does multiplayer work?
The game supports solo play as well as online co-op for up to four players. Mega Crit’s FAQ specifies that co-op has no matchmaking and is limited to Steam friends. That makes it a group option for people who can coordinate with friends, rather than a way to find random teammates in-game. (launch post; FAQ)
What does buying into Early Access mean?
Slay the Spire II is being released in an unfinished, actively changing state. Steam’s Early Access description says Mega Crit is using player feedback to balance content, add quality-of-life features, improve performance, and guide development. The developer says players can send feedback and bug reports in-game. (Steam Early Access Q&A; launch post)

Content and planned changes
Mega Crit says it expects to add and balance cards, events, environments, enemies, and other content during Early Access. Steam’s full-version plans also list a true ending, more modes, further balance work, bug fixes, improved hardware compatibility, visual effects, and additional languages. These are plans, not a guarantee that every item will arrive on a particular date. Steam estimates the Early Access period at approximately one to two years, while describing the endpoint as when the game feels great; there is no specific end date. (launch post; Steam Early Access Q&A)
Play now or wait?
- Consider playing now if you are comfortable with unfinished or changing content, want to provide feedback, and are interested in seeing development unfold.
- Consider waiting if you would rather play a more complete version, particularly because the true ending and additional modes are listed among full-release plans and the schedule is not fixed.
The FAQ listed a launch price of $24.99 USD, with regional prices varying. That is the publisher’s announced launch price, not a reliable statement of the current price in every region; check Steam for the price shown where you are. (Mega Crit FAQ; Steam store page)

What else is available in the Slay the Spire series?
The Slay the Spire board game is a separate physical product, not a version of the digital sequel. Contention Games describes it as a cooperative deckbuilding game for one to four players, with an estimated 45 minutes per player and a recommended age of 12+. The publisher says it is available in stores and orderable; that does not establish current stock or availability at any particular retailer. (Mega Crit merchandise page; Contention Games)
