Mountaintop Studios first announced its closure on March 12 and said the game would go offline “within the next 30 days,” but that was an estimate. The studio later published the specific shutdown date.
When did Spectre Divide shut down?
Mountaintop’s April 15, 2025 server notice set the shutdown for April 17 at 12:00 p.m. PT. It said players would no longer be able to log in and play after that time. The game is therefore no longer playable online.
The March 12 announcement gave an earlier estimate: the studio expected to take the game offline within 30 days. A PlayStation Store listing reproduced an early timetable that said Mountaintop would close on March 14 and Spectre Divide would go offline by April 12. Those dates were estimates, not the final server schedule; the later April 15 notice gave the confirmed shutdown time.

Why did Mountaintop Studios close?
In its March 12 letter to players, Mountaintop said it had run out of funding and would close at the end of that week. The studio attributed the decision to Spectre Divide’s Season 1 launch falling short of what it needed to sustain both the game and the company. It wrote: “Unfortunately, the Season 1 launch hasn’t achieved the level of success we needed to sustain the game and keep Mountaintop afloat.”
The studio also said active players and incoming revenue were not enough to cover ongoing operating costs. Its letter put the problem this way: “But as time has gone on, we haven’t seen enough active players and incoming revenue to cover the day-to-day costs of Spectre and the studio.” Mountaintop said attempts to secure a publisher, additional investment, or an acquisition had not succeeded.

How many people played Spectre Divide?
Mountaintop reported that approximately 400,000 people played during the optimistic first week after the Season 1 launch, with a peak of approximately 10,000 concurrent players across all platforms. These are approximate figures supplied by the studio in its March 12 letter, not independently audited measurements. The letter described the initial player response as encouraging, but said the game did not retain enough activity and generate enough revenue to meet its costs.
Could players still play after the shutdown?
No. The final notice said players could not log in or play after the servers shut down on April 17, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. PT. The material in the shutdown notice concerns the online game; it does not establish that an offline mode remained available.
