Its launch-era Premium Edition was announced with the base game, a four-DLC Content Pass and the official soundtrack. The pass has since taken shape: it lists three released packs and the still-undated Times of War campaign expansion.
When did Sins of a Solar Empire II come to Steam?
Stardock announced the Steam release for August 15, 2024, then confirmed the game was available on that date. The announcement positioned it as a real-time strategy and 4X sequel. Stardock highlighted three returning playable races—Advent, Vasari and TEC—with two sub-factions each; dynamically orbiting planets; missiles that can be tracked or intercepted in battle; minor factions and influence; a customizable economy; and multiplayer for up to ten players. These are publisher-described features, not independent performance findings.
At the Steam launch, Stardock Director of Publishing Brian Clair said the company looked forward to supporting players with more DLC, as well as mod tools and a mod browser. That statement appeared in Stardock’s August 15, 2024 launch post.
What was included in the launch-era Premium Edition?
Stardock’s August 1, 2024 announcement described the planned Premium Edition as the base game, the first Content Pass and the official soundtrack. The pass was described as four DLCs: one small, one medium and two expansion-level releases. The announcement did not name all four in its bundle description.

The $39.99 base-game and $79.99 Premium Edition prices cited in that announcement were limited-time launch prices, not current prices. Store prices and terms can vary by region and change over time.

The Content Pass page displayed $59.99 when accessed, but that is a volatile, region-dependent store price rather than a guaranteed current price. Check the live Steam listing for the price and package terms available to your account.
What has released, and what is still to come?
Released content
Stardock announced Harbinger on September 3, 2026. It added the Eidolon faction and new mechanics, ships and structures. The same announcement said every owner received the free v2.0 base-game update. Stardock listed the expansion on Steam, the Epic Games Store and directly through Stardock. Its launch discount ran through September 14, 2026 and has expired.

Steam also lists Paths to Power and Reinforcements as DLC, with the descriptions summarized above. The Steam DLC page has date labels that appear inconsistent for Harbinger; Stardock’s dated announcement gives September 3, 2026 as its release date.
Still undated
Times of War remains listed as “To Be Announced” on the Content Pass page. The listing describes its intended format and setting, but does not establish a release date. No more specific timing should be assumed.

Which purchase option makes sense?
The practical distinction is whether you need the base game as well as the add-ons. The launch announcement’s Premium Edition details describe the original bundle, while the current Steam Content Pass listing names its contents. Check the live store pages for current regional prices, package availability and whether a listing includes the base game before buying. If you already own the game, compare the add-on pass with individual DLC listings; if you do not, compare the total cost of the base game plus desired add-ons with any available bundle.
