Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is a gentle, story-led adventure that reviewers praise for its Moomin-inspired atmosphere, art, music, and environmental themes. Its main trade-off is that exploration and puzzles stay simple, and the adventure is described as short. It is best suited to players looking for a relaxed, compact journey—not a long or mechanically demanding game.
What kind of game is Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley?
Snufkin returns to Moominvalley and helps its inhabitants push back against disruptive parks built by the Park Keeper. The story and characters are inspired by Tove Jansson’s Moomin work. Nintendo and Steam describe a musical adventure that blends open-world exploration, stealth, environmental and musical puzzles, and harmonica-based interactions; Nintendo says it includes more than 50 characters and creatures.
The game’s musical identity is part of the appeal: its official descriptions credit a collaboration with Icelandic band Sigur Rós. On Steam, the Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with the Cherished Keepsakes cosmetic DLC, Fuddler’s Courtship, the original soundtrack, and a digital artbook. The listing confirms digital extras, not a physical soundtrack.
What do reviews praise—and what do they criticize?
Atmosphere, art, and adaptation
Critic excerpts collected by Metacritic repeatedly highlight the game’s storybook presentation, quiet atmosphere, narrative, and environmental message. Impulsegamer called it “a delightful adaptation and an absolutely mesmerizing adventure.” That is one outlet’s assessment rather than a universal verdict.

Steam also displays short press excerpts that capture the game’s appeal: Nintendo Life says it “Makes you feel like you’re living in a Moomins book,” while Wholesome Games describes it as “gentle and playful, but also full of heart.” These are attributed press quotes, not an aggregate score.
Simple mechanics and a compact adventure
The recurring reservation is limited depth. GamingTrend characterized the game as a “short yet refreshing adventure game” and noted that its gameplay is simplistic. That simplicity fits the low-pressure tone, but players seeking intricate puzzles, demanding stealth, or a lengthy adventure may find less to engage with.

One US App Store reviewer, writing on September 22, 2025, said they enjoyed the cozy experience but wished there were more to do and had finished it within two days. That is an individual player’s account, not a reliable estimate of typical completion time. The available review evidence does not establish an average playtime.
Is Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley worth it?
It is a good fit if you value Moominvalley’s gentle character, relaxed exploration, expressive presentation, and a story you can enjoy without a high difficulty ceiling. It is a weaker fit if your priority is a long campaign, intricate systems, or a challenging adventure. The review picture is less about a flaw that undermines the experience than a clear question of expectations: its charm is the focus, not mechanical complexity.
