Under the reported condition, the Xbox version would not have launched during that exclusive period. Push Square’s account attributes the details to an English transcript of Pearl Abyss investor-relations remarks.
That distinction matters: this was a reported proposal, not evidence that Sony blocked, controlled, or halted an Xbox release. The account describes a deal Pearl Abyss could accept or reject. It is not a public confirmation from Sony, and no on-record Sony statement about this specific offer is established by the available sources.
Why Pearl Abyss reportedly turned it down
The report says Pearl Abyss considered Sony’s marketing reach and incentives appealing, but concluded that self-publishing would make better use of the company’s own global publishing capabilities and overseas offices. The quoted remarks, as reproduced by Push Square, said: “Since we already have the capability to self-publish globally and have overseas branches, we concluded that using our own resources would be more advantageous.”

The same report gave a typical-contract example in which platform fees accounted for 30% of revenue and the remaining 70% was split between developer and publisher. That is a figure attributed to Pearl Abyss in the report, not a universal industry rule or a confirmed breakdown of the proposed Sony deal. Push Square also reported a then-expected sales range of three to four million units; that was a 2024 forecast, not a current sales result.
What the public record confirms—and what it does not
Pearl Abyss’s investor-relations archive lists a presentation dated November 18, 2024, with an English IR book attachment. The indexed page confirms the presentation entry and attachment, but does not itself display the specific negotiation terms described in the news report. The deal details should therefore remain attributed to Push Square’s account of the transcript, rather than presented as independently confirmed by the archive or by Sony.

Crimson Desert launched on Xbox after all
Pearl Abyss announced that Crimson Desert launched worldwide on March 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, Epic Games Store, and ROG Xbox Ally. The company’s launch announcement documents the Xbox release alongside the other platforms. The outcome is straightforward: the reported exclusivity proposal was not accepted, and Xbox players received the game at launch rather than after a one-year delay.
