Sony’s latest U.S. recommended prices, effective April 2, 2026, are $649.99 for PS5, $599.99 for PS5 Digital Edition, and $899.99 for PS5 Pro. Those prices follow a separate increase that took effect in August 2025, so the $549.99, $499.99, and $749.99 figures announced then are no longer Sony’s latest U.S. recommendations. Retail prices can vary.
How much does a PS5 cost in the U.S. now?
Sony’s latest U.S. recommended retail prices for the console family are below. Sony announced them on March 27, 2026, with the new prices taking effect April 2, 2026. They are recommended prices, not a guarantee of what every retailer charges.
| Console | U.S. recommended price from April 2, 2026 |
|---|---|
| PS5 | $649.99 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 |
Retailer promotions, bundles, stock, and taxes can affect the amount a buyer pays. Sony directs customers in territories not covered by its listed market prices to local retailers or direct.playstation.com; the U.S. schedule should not be used to infer prices in other countries. Sony’s March 27, 2026 announcement also lists selected prices for the U.K., Europe, and Japan.
Did Sony raise PS5 prices in the U.S.?
Yes. Sony announced an increase on August 20, 2025, effective August 21. The company’s announcement applied to all three U.S. console models:

| PS5 Pro | $749.99 | $899.99 |
The August figures are the recommended prices announced at that time, not the current schedule. Sony’s August notice said accessory recommended prices were unchanged and that it had no other market price changes to announce then. Its March 2026 notice later announced global price changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player, with selected market prices; it did not make the August 2025 U.S. figures current again.
How much did the U.S. recommended prices go up?
Comparing Sony’s August 2025 and April 2026 U.S. schedules, the recommended price rose by $100 for PS5, $100 for PS5 Digital Edition, and $150 for PS5 Pro. This is a comparison of Sony’s announced recommended prices, not a measure of how much any particular retailer’s price changed.

Why did Sony raise the prices?
Sony attributed the August 2025 increase to what it called a “challenging economic environment.” In the March 2026 notice, Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President of Global Marketing, cited “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Neither announcement provided a quantified breakdown of the factors behind the increases, so the stated reasons do not establish that any specific cost or policy caused them.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the increase affect the PS5 Pro and Digital Edition?
Yes. The August 2025 U.S. increase covered PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro, and Sony’s April 2026 U.S. schedule lists new recommended prices for all three. The Pro’s latest recommended price is $899.99; the Digital Edition’s is $599.99. Sony’s August 2025 statement about unchanged accessory prices applied to that announcement and should not be read as a statement about later accessory pricing.
