Sony’s Icon Blue Special Edition is a standard DualSense controller distinguished by its layered blue design—not a new controller platform. Its launch is rolling out market by market: Sony announced the first Americas dates in 2025, then published separate schedules and listings for additional regions in 2026. Prices, retailers and model numbers therefore depend on where you buy it.
What is different about the Icon Blue DualSense?
The special edition keeps the familiar DualSense design and features, but gives it a distinct blue-and-navy finish. Sony describes “unique, layered shades of blue” and a glossy pattern of PlayStation shapes across the touchpad. The design is inspired by PlayStation’s heritage.
The rear carries Katakana lettering spelling PlayStation in Japanese. Leo Cardoso of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Color, Material and Finish design team explained: “As a nod to our origins, we added Katakana characters on the back that spell our name the Japanese way: Pureisutēshon.“ Sony’s original announcement introduced the controller on October 7, 2025.
When does the Icon Blue DualSense come out, and how much does it cost?
Sony’s dates and prices are regional announcements or product-page listings, not a single worldwide launch price. The table separates the markets for which the supplied Sony sources state figures.

Is it a different controller, and what does it work with?
Sony presents Icon Blue as a special-edition DualSense design, not a new hardware platform. Its product materials describe the standard controller’s haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone and headset jack. Sony says haptics and adaptive triggers may require a USB connection and are available only in supported games.
Sony’s UK listing states compatibility with PS5, PC, Mac and mobile devices. The Japan announcement specifies wired USB Type-C and wireless Bluetooth connections. Compatibility does not mean every game or device supports every DualSense feature; available functions depend on the platform, game and connection.

Model identifiers also vary by market: Sony lists CFI-ZCT2W on its UK product page and CFI-ZCT2JZB in its Japan announcement. Sony France says a USB cable is not included and points users to the cable supplied with a PS5 console for connection or charging.

Sony’s cited announcement and product pages do not establish a production quantity, sales forecast or market statistic for Icon Blue. Nor do they support treating any one region’s release date, price or retailer as global. For a buying decision against a standard DualSense, the established distinction is its design; the reviewed Sony materials do not establish a difference in core hardware.
