If South Park: Snow Day! keeps crashing on PS5, first check for game and console updates, confirm the installation completed, and test whether the problem also occurs from a fresh start without your existing save. If it still crashes, reinstall the game. Back up your data before considering a console reset: resetting erases data saved on the console. If other games crash too, use PlayStation’s repair guidance; if the problem is limited to Snow Day!, report it to THQ Nordic.
Try these fixes in order
- Check for a game update. Highlight South Park: Snow Day! on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, then choose Check for Update. THQ Nordic’s April 11, 2024 update announcement lists PS5 version 1.006 and says it addressed “some stability issues,” along with matchmaking and UI issues. That confirms stability fixes were included, not that every crash was resolved or that 1.006 is your installed version. Read THQ Nordic’s update announcement.
- Update PS5 system software. Check the console’s system software and install an available update. PlayStation includes this among its recommendations for games that freeze or crash. See PlayStation’s game crash troubleshooting guide.
- Verify the installation finished. For a digital copy, highlight the game, press Options, and choose Information > Download Status. Confirm that downloading and installation are complete before launching it again.
- Test from a fresh start. Start the game from the beginning without loading your existing save and see whether the crash still happens. This is a diagnostic comparison, not proof that the save is damaged. Do not delete a valuable save unless you have backed it up.
- Reinstall the game. Delete the game application and download it again for a digital copy. For a disc copy, inspect and clean the disc, then reinstall from it if needed. Reinstalling the game is different from resetting the PS5.
Choose the next step based on what happens

Reserve a console reset for later
A PS5 reset is not a routine first fix for one crashing game. PlayStation warns that resetting erases data saved on the console storage, so back up game data before considering it. If you are weighing a reset, follow PlayStation’s current instructions and confirm your backup is complete first.
Give support details that help diagnose the crash
When reporting a recurring crash, note the exact error code, where in the game it occurs, and the steps that reproduce it. A screenshot or video can help support understand what happened. The official PlayStation Store lists South Park: Snow Day! as a PS5 title published by THQ Nordic; it supports solo play with ally bots and online play with up to three friends, so specify whether the crash occurs during solo or online play.
