Steam says an approved refund can take up to seven days to appear in your account. That is general guidance—not a debit-card-specific deadline—and Steam warns that international payment methods may take longer. If seven days have passed since approval, contact your bank and ask about pending refunds.
How long does a Steam refund take to reach a debit card?
Steam’s guidance is that approved refunds can take up to seven days to appear. Its support page does not give a separate processing time for debit cards, so the seven-day estimate is not a guarantee that every debit-card credit will post by then. International payment methods may take longer. Steam’s Common Refund Questions gives the timing and the bank-contact advice.
First check whether Steam issued a refund or cancelled the charge
A debit-card transaction can appear differently depending on how soon Steam approved the request. If Steam approved it within 24 hours of purchase, Steam says the original transaction is cancelled. You may not receive a separate refund credit: instead, your bank may release the pending authorization and remove the charge. In many cases, Steam says the bank may take up to 30 days to confirm it did not receive the funds. Steam explains this distinction in its refund FAQ.
Check your bank’s pending transactions as well as completed activity. A hold disappearing is not the same as a new credit, and the bank—not Steam—controls when it removes the hold.

Confirm where Steam sent the refund
When you request a refund, Steam may offer the original payment method or Steam Wallet as the destination. The original method is available only when Steam can refund to it. Steam Wallet credit has a separate stated timeline: approved wallet refunds can take 24–48 hours to appear. That is not a debit-card posting estimate. Steam’s refund-request instructions explain how to check the request, and its refund FAQ covers wallet timing.
Review your Steam purchase history too. Wallet funds may already have been used for another purchase, so the current balance may not show the original credit.

What to do if the refund is missing
- Check the request status. In Steam Support, open the purchase and review the refund request or processed-refund status. Steam sends a confirmation when a request is submitted and another email when it is processed. Start at How To Request A Refund.
- Verify the destination. Confirm whether Steam selected the original payment method or Steam Wallet; the original method may not be available for every purchase.
- Check both accounts. Look at Steam purchase history and your bank’s pending and completed transactions. If the purchase was cancelled, the bank may release a hold rather than post a refund credit.
- Contact your bank after seven days. If more than seven days have passed since Steam approved the refund and you cannot see the credit or a released hold, ask the bank specifically about pending refunds. This is Steam’s stated next step.
Do not confuse a failed card purchase with an approved refund
If a card purchase failed because the billing address was incorrect, that is not an approved refund. Steam says it will not collect the funds for the failed transaction; the bank returns them according to its own policy. Steam’s declined-card guidance addresses pending holds in this situation.

Timing and eligibility are separate. Steam’s standard rule for games is that you request the refund within 14 days of purchase and have played for less than two hours. Playtime includes online, offline, and shared-library playtime. If you fall outside those limits, you can still submit a request for Steam to review, but approval is not assured. A pre-order can be refunded before release. If it was purchased more than six months earlier, however, the original payment method may no longer be available; Steam Wallet credit may still be requested.
