What did Stephanie McMahon say about a new WWE RPG?
On WWE’s Q1 2022 earnings call, McMahon said the company had “recently signed a new deal in the role-playing game place that will be announced soon.” Fightful reproduced the remarks in its May 5, 2022 report. The word “place” is how it appears in the reproduced transcript.

That statement confirmed a signed deal and an expectation of a future announcement at that time. It did not identify a game title, studio, platform, or launch date. GameSpot’s May 6, 2022 coverage likewise noted that whether the game would be mobile remained unknown.
The available sources do not establish whether the deal was subsequently announced, released, changed, or discontinued. So the accurate answer to “Is the WWE RPG announced in 2022 still happening?” is that its current status cannot be confirmed from these reports.

Why was she praising WWE 2K22?
McMahon’s RPG comment came in a passage about WWE’s games business, not as a description of WWE 2K22. She said WWE was pleased with the relaunch of its premium console franchise after taking more than a year off to improve the game engine and work with Take-Two Interactive.
“We were extremely pleased with the relaunch of our premium video game console franchise WWE 2K. After taking a little more than a year off to improve the game engine, we worked hand in glove with our partners at Take Two Interactive, listened to our customers and fans, and earned back their trust by delivering a game that exceeded their expectations.”

She described WWE 2K22 as a commercial and critical success, saying it had the franchise’s highest Metacritic scores on Xbox and PlayStation and had accumulated “over 5.6 million hours viewed on Twitch to date.” Both the score characterization and Twitch figure are McMahon’s remarks on the Q1 2022 call, as reproduced by Fightful; they are not current performance figures, and that report does not provide the underlying Metacritic scores.
What is confirmed about WWE 2K22?
WWE 2K22 was a released game, separate from the unnamed RPG deal. Take-Two and 2K said it launched on March 11, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Their launch announcement named Visual Concepts as developer and Rey Mysterio as cover star, and highlighted a redesigned engine and gameplay, new controls, updated graphics, and new modes.
MyGM and other modes
In MyGM, players choose a general manager, draft a roster, manage a budget, sign free agents, select matches and show logistics, and compete with a rival GM in ratings battles that culminate at WrestleMania. The game also includes 2K Showcase, MyFACTION, MyRISE, Universe, and Creation Suite.
McMahon voiced the MyGM trailer. In its February 16, 2022 announcement, 2K described choosing a GM and brand, drafting a roster within a budget, booking shows, and using Power Cards and Commissioner Goals. Players could play, simulate, or spectate matches.

Is WrestleQuest the WWE RPG?
No. Fightful mentioned WrestleQuest separately as a wrestling-themed RPG by Mega Cat Studios and explicitly distinguished it from the WWE deal. The report does not identify WrestleQuest as a WWE project; the two should not be treated as the same game.
