PS6 Specs, Performance and Release Date: What the “3x Faster” Leak Claims

A reported PS6 estimate claims roughly 3x the base PS5’s rasterization performance, with a possible Fall 2027 or early-2028 launch. Neither claim is confirmed by Sony.

The PlayStation 6 is reportedly capable of about 3x the rasterization performance of the base PS5, according to a claim by hardware leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID), summarized by Notebookcheck in August 2025. That is an unconfirmed estimate attributed to early, non-final material—not a Sony specification or a test of finished hardware. The same leak places a possible launch in Fall 2027 or early 2028, but Sony has not announced a PS6 release date.

What does the PS6 “3x faster” claim mean?

The multiplier refers specifically to rasterization performance compared with the base PlayStation 5. Rasterization is the traditional method used to render 3D graphics. The reported figure should not be read as a guarantee that every game, graphics feature, or kind of processing will run three times faster.

Notebookcheck’s August 1, 2025 report attributes the estimate to MLID and says the information apparently came from an AMD presentation to Sony in 2023. The report also warns that the material was early and non-final, so the design or its performance could have changed. It is a leak claim, not an independently measured result from a retail PS6.

What does the leak say about the PS6 release date?

The same report attributes a possible Fall 2027 or early-2028 launch window to MLID. It also describes mid-2027 as an alleged serial-production target. Neither is an official date or confirmation from Sony; they should be treated as reported targets that may change.

Why do other PS6 performance estimates differ?

Later leak coverage describes a separate alleged AMD simulation and earlier configuration estimates. These figures concern different assumptions and workloads, so they do not establish one dependable PS6 performance multiplier.

Reported estimate What it refers to Evidence status
About 3x rasterization versus the base PS5 The estimate attributed to MLID in Notebookcheck’s August 2025 report. Leak claim linked to apparently 2023 presentation material; not a retail-hardware test, and the report says the information was early and non-final.
Over 2x performance in one configuration A separate alleged AMD internal simulation described by Notebookcheck in August 2026. The report says that configuration had 25% more bandwidth and 33% more compute units than the PS5. Projection from a document described as two years old, not measured frame rates; the report says actual launch performance could differ.
2.5–3x rasterization A separate estimate discussed in the August 2026 coverage. Another reported leak estimate, not a confirmed specification or benchmark.

The figures should not be combined into an “up to” performance promise. A simulation, an alleged presentation, and a rasterization estimate are not interchangeable with tests of finished hardware. Nor does a rasterization multiplier establish equivalent gains in ray tracing, AI-assisted reconstruction, or an overall game experience. The 2025 report also speculates that ray-tracing gains could be larger, but it does not provide a confirmed multiplier.

What has Sony confirmed?

The cited PS6 specifications, name, architecture, price, and release window remain unconfirmed in the reporting summarized here. Sony’s official FY26 Q1 supplemental information provides useful context for the comparator: it reports 93.7 million cumulative PS5 hardware sell-in units as of March 31, 2026. Sell-in is not the same as units sold through to consumers, and the figure says nothing about PS6 hardware or performance.

For readers deciding whether to play now or wait, the PS5 is the available current-generation console discussed in these sources; no PS6 product is established as available. The leak does not establish PS6 compatibility with PS5 games or peripherals, so those should not be assumed.
