How this tier list works
Splatoon 3 has eleven weapon types, and each spreads ink differently. A weapon is also more than its main: Nintendo says, “Each main weapon comes in a kit with set sub and special weapon.” Consider the complete kit, your role, and the map before settling on a pick.
The recommendations below weigh fighting consistency, painting, objective utility, mobility, range, kit value, flexibility across modes and maps, and the skill a weapon demands. Published tier lists do not establish an objective consensus: an overall ranking can differ from a mode-specific one, and a specialist may be better than a general-purpose pick in the right conditions.

Best Splatoon 3 weapon for each class
| Class | Starting pick | Best suited to | Trade-off or alternative |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shooter | Splash-o-matic | Mobile skirmishing, accurate fights, and painting. | For close-range stopping power, consider .52 Gal; for a flexible all-rounder, try Splattershot. No one Shooter suits every role. |
| Roller | Splat Roller | Ambushes from ink, close-range picks, and defending objectives near cover. | Open approaches leave it exposed to longer-range weapons. Carbon Roller Deco is a faster aggressive option; Dynamo Roller is more map-dependent. |
| Brush | Inkbrush | Flanking, disruption, mobility, Clam Blitz routes, and Rainmaker pressure. | It is less suited to straight duels. Octobrush trades some mobility for more close-range combat power. |
| Slosher | Sloshing Machine | Mid-range pressure around cover and ledges, including against opponents hiding behind terrain. | For simpler, closer brawling, consider Tri-Slosher. |
| Charger | Splat Charger | Precision picks and control of long lanes. | E-liter 4K is the specialist option when maximum range is the priority, but it is slower and more demanding. Chargers reward patient positioning and aim. |
| Splatling | Heavy Splatling | Sustained painting, pressure, and backline support across objective modes. | Ballpoint offers a more flexible, higher-ceiling hybrid. Hydra Splatling can dominate slow pushes but is vulnerable to flanks. Heavy Splatling’s paint was reduced in Ver. 11.2.0. |
| Dualies | Splat Dualies | Mobile skirmishing, repositioning, and following up on teammate damage. | Choose Dualie Squelchers for safer range; the right pick depends on the role you need to fill. |
| Brella | Splat Brella | Shielded support and escorting an objective push. | Good shield timing and positioning matter. Tenta Brella is better suited to coordinated pushes than general solo-queue play. |
| Stringer | Tri-Stringer | Backline chip damage, arcing shots around cover, and area denial. | REEF-LUX 450 is the more mobile, paint-heavy alternative. |
| Splatana | Splatana Wiper | Mobility, route painting, and frontline pressure. | Splatana Stamper offers more range and burst, but missed swings can be punished. Wiper rewards confident gap-closing. |
What changed in the latest patch?
Nintendo’s Ver. 11.3.0 notes, released August 19, 2026, apply to both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. The update adjusted several weapons and specials; these are balance changes, not proof that any weapon has a particular win rate.
- Tri-Slosher ink consumption decreased by approximately 5%.
- Glooga Dualies shot spread after a Dodge Roll decreased by approximately 10%.
- .52 Gal’s distant impact ink-splatter radius decreased by approximately 8%.
- Snipewriter 5H ink consumption increased by approximately 7%.
- Trizooka shot speed increased by approximately 13%, with no change to flight distance.
- Triple Splashdown’s damaging explosion area decreased by approximately 9%.
- Other adjustments covered Carbon Roller vertical-swing damage falloff and rolling movement, E-liter 4K’s ink-saver effect, Tri-Stringer falling-spray coverage, Ink Vac, and special point costs.
For the full list of adjustments, see Nintendo’s Ver. 11.3.0 update notes. Older guides may not reflect this patch; for example, the English class guide dated May 26, 2026 predates it.
Choose by mode, map, and team role
Start with the objective
Turf War rewards efficient painting and staying alive. Anarchy Battles ask for different kinds of value depending on the rules: picks, objective control, checkpoint pressure, or denying routes. Favor a weapon whose strengths help your team meet the mode’s immediate demands.
Rank #2
- Ink it up with a new entry in the Splatoon series
- Discover the Splatlands, a new sun-soaked region with trendsetting inhabitants
- Experiment with new styles for Inklings and Octolings
- 4v4 Turf Wars* are back, with new stages, new maneuvers, and new weapons
- Join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians in story mode
Read the map
Long sightlines can favor Chargers, Splatlings, and Tri-Stringer. Tight corners and chokepoints can improve the value of Rollers, Brushes, Sloshers, Blasters, and short-range fighters. A specialist can outperform a general recommendation when the terrain suits it.

If your team already has a backline, another long-range weapon may leave it short on mobile painting or frontline pressure. Look at the whole kit—including its fixed sub and special—rather than choosing on the main weapon alone.

Rankings differ because their authors weigh roles, modes, and weapon strengths differently. Position Is Everything’s English guide, published May 26, 2026, places Splash-o-matic, Squeezer, .52 Gal, Sloshing Machine, Heavy Edit Splatling, Range Blaster, E-liter 4K, Tri-Stringer, and Splatana Stamper in its S tier. That guide predates Ver. 11.3.0, so it is useful as comparative editorial context, not as a final authority on the current patch.
Rank #3
- Splat scores of enemies and hunt for treasure in a single-player focused action shooter
GameWith’s Japanese tier page was updated August 29, 2026 and separates overall rankings from rule-specific rankings. Its overall Tier 1 includes .52 Gal; its Tier 2 includes weapons such as Splat Roller, Dualies, Hot Blaster, Slosher, Barrel Splatling, N-ZAP, Prime Shooter, Dynamo Roller, Range Blaster Deco, Snipewriter 5H, and S-BLAST ’91. Its mode lists are separate, which is a useful reminder that the answer can change between Turf War, Splat Zones, and Tower Control.
Neither page supplies objective weapon win rates in the cited rankings. Treat tiers as a shortlist for trying weapons, not a guarantee of results.

Beginner-friendly way to test a pick
- Choose a class recommendation that matches the role you want to try—such as Splash-o-matic for mobile skirmishing or Splat Roller for ambushes near cover.
- Check the weapon’s complete kit and consider whether its sub and special help with your mode and team.
- Try it on the maps and rules you actually play. Notice whether you can reach the objective, contribute paint or pressure, and disengage when a fight turns against you.
- If it feels mismatched, switch to the listed alternative for that class or fill a different team role; a poor fit does not mean the class itself is weak.
