How long has Star Citizen been in development?
Roberts Space Industries (RSI) dates the campaign’s start to October 24, 2012, on its official funding timeline. The 13-year milestone fell in October 2025; by October 8, 2026, that start date was nearly 14 years in the past. This is the age of the campaign, not a measure of how much of the game is complete.
Is Star Citizen still in alpha?
Yes. RSI’s development hub listed Star Citizen Alpha 4.10.1 among its latest releases as of October 8, 2026. The official status archive also records a September 16, 2026 service maintenance event to deploy Alpha 4.10.1. Together, these identify the public live game as Alpha at that date.
The alpha label and patch number do not establish a completion percentage, confirm that every announced feature is finished, or provide a release date for version 1.0. The available official records cited here do not confirm when 1.0 will arrive.

Has Star Citizen raised nearly $900 million?
That amount should not be presented as a verified current total. RSI’s funding page labels a live “Funds Raised” counter, but the counter did not return a figure in the page record available for this article. Without a functioning, dated official total, “nearly $900 million” remains an unverified headline figure rather than a confirmed current number.
What does the roadmap promise?
RSI/CIG describes its public roadmap as a progress tracker and cautions: “It is not a promise.” Its roadmap update says estimates can shift as development priorities change and teams rework code or design. That explains the developer’s stated approach to planning; it does not independently assess whether the project’s pace is adequate.
