If Starfield’s motion blur or camera movement is making you feel nauseous, open Settings > Display from the Main Menu or Pause Menu and check the motion-blur option. Lower it if your version offers that choice. If discomfort continues, investigate other visual movement settings rather than assuming blur is the only cause.
Find the motion-blur setting
- Open Settings. You can do this from either the Main Menu or the Pause Menu.
- Select Display. Bethesda’s support instructions give this route for Starfield’s display settings: Bethesda Support: Starfield settings.
- Inspect the motion-blur control. Choose a lower level if the option shown in your build allows it. Bethesda’s May 15, 2024 update notes record a label adjustment from “Off” to “Low Quality”; that dated note does not establish that every current platform or build has the same choices. Check the label and available values in your own game: Bethesda’s May 15, 2024 update notes.
- Try a comparable scene again. Change one setting at a time and compare the same kind of gameplay—for example, moving through a similar area with similar camera movement. This makes it easier to notice which change, if any, helps you.
If blur is not the only problem
Motion sickness can occur when the movement shown on screen does not match the player’s physical movement. Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117 explains: “This mismatch between the visual perception of body movement and actual body movement contributes to feelings of motion sickness among players.” Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117.
Blur is only one possible contributor. Microsoft’s accessibility guidance also identifies field of view, camera bobbing, weapon sway, screen shake, and forced or automatic camera movement as effects worth considering. Xbox Accessibility Guidelines. Their presence as possible factors does not mean Starfield offers a dedicated toggle for each one on every platform or build; check the controls available in your own settings.
- If discomfort seems tied to movement while walking or sprinting, look for camera bobbing or sway controls if your build provides them.
- If the view feels uncomfortable even when blur is reduced, consider whether the field of view or other camera movement may be involved, where adjustable.
- If an adjustment does not help, revert it and test another one rather than changing several controls at once.
Xbox Series X frame-rate options depend on your display
Bethesda’s May 15, 2024 notes describe Xbox Series X options to prioritize Visuals or Performance and select a frame-rate target. The available targets depend on display support:

| Display condition in Bethesda’s notes | Listed frame-rate targets |
|---|---|
| 120 Hz VRR display | 30, 40, 60, or Uncapped |
| No 120 Hz VRR display | 30 or 60 |
Bethesda also notes that screen tearing may occur at times when selecting 60 on a non-VRR display. These are platform-, display-, and update-specific choices, not evidence that a particular target prevents nausea. Use the options your console actually presents, and consider whether the Visuals or Performance priority and the resulting camera motion feel more comfortable to you. Players can react differently to the same effects, so there is no setting value here that can be promised to stop motion sickness. A community member described trying a wider field of view, lower mouse sensitivity, motion blur off, and windowed mode; that is one player’s report, not proof those changes work for others.
