TAPE: Unveil the Memories is an atmospheric first-person mystery built around a clever time-altering camera: you rewind, advance, or pause objects in the environment to solve puzzles and explore the past. It’s most appealing if you enjoy story-led adventures and environmental puzzles; stealth sequences and the handling of sensitive story themes may be less successful for some players, according to one independent review. The game is listed for Windows, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch, so the best version depends on your preferred platform and the language and edition details shown in your regional store.
What is TAPE: Unveil the Memories?
TAPE: Unveil the Memories is a first-person narrative mystery adventure set in 1990s Northern Spain. Iria receives a VHS message from her father, a famous horror-film director who disappeared, and explores memories to learn what happened to him and uncover family secrets. The official store descriptions connect the story to Galician society and horror cinema.

The central tool is a special in-game video camera. As Steam puts it, “Use a special video camera that can rewind time to explore memories of the past.” In play, the camera lets Iria rewind, advance, or pause objects and scenes, making it a puzzle and exploration device—not a requirement to own or use a real camera. The game focuses on environmental puzzles and story rather than ordinary combat.
What do reviews say about the gameplay and story?
The camera puzzles are the main draw
In its review published May 12, 2022, Meristation singled out the camera as the game’s strongest feature. The puzzles begin simply and become more involved as the game develops. That time-manipulation mechanic gives the adventure a distinctive identity and ties exploration to its story about memories.
#1 Best Overall
- A very special camera. In the memories of her past, Iria will be able to use her video camera to influence the objects, move them backward, forward, or pause them in time
- Discover Iria's memories. Discover what happened to Iria's father, a famous horror film director, and what events led to his tragic disappearance
- Unravel the past. In a small town in Spain, the story of Iria and her family is linked to Galician society in the 1990s, as well as to the horror cinema and the influence it had on them
Stealth can interrupt the story’s rhythm
Meristation also noted that stealth encounters can break the narrative flow. Iria has to evade a creature, and failing sends her back to the encounter’s checkpoint. That criticism reflects one reviewer’s experience, not a universal verdict, but it is relevant if you prefer a continuous narrative over stealth challenges.
Expect atmosphere more than constant jump scares
Meristation described the horror as more atmospheric and thematic than jump-scare-driven. The review also felt that some sensitive themes were handled superficially. Those are the reviewer’s judgments; players who value the premise may weigh the game’s family mystery and mood differently.
Is TAPE: Unveil the Memories worth playing?
It looks like a good fit for players drawn to unusual puzzle mechanics, atmospheric horror, and a compact, story-led mystery. The camera provides a clear gameplay hook, while the setting and family story give the puzzles a narrative context. It may be a weaker fit if you want combat, consistently uninterrupted storytelling, or a horror game built chiefly around jump scares.

Store ratings offer another, limited signal, but they should be read separately: Steam’s listing showed 96% positive from 51 user reviews when accessed in 2026, while the PlayStation Store showed 3.63 out of 5 from 56 ratings when accessed in 2026. These are different rating systems and separate storefront audiences, not directly comparable scores or a single measure of player consensus.

Steam PC requirements
Steam lists a 5 GB storage requirement, 4 GB RAM, and GTX 750 Ti- or Radeon HD 7950-class graphics at minimum; its recommended specification is 8 GB RAM and GTX 970- or Radeon R9-series graphics. Although the game’s minimum operating-system listing says Windows 7 or later, Steam separately states that the Steam Client supports Windows 10 and later as of January 1, 2024. For a current Windows purchase, the client requirement is the more useful compatibility check.
Digital editions
Besides the standard digital game listings, PlayStation offers a Hi-Fi Edition containing both console versions and the soundtrack. Steam lists a digital soundtrack and game bundle. Edition contents and prices can vary or change, so compare the current storefront descriptions rather than assuming every platform has the same bundle.
