“Tanglewood reviews” here means reviews of Tanglewood Guitars, not the video game with the same name. Tanglewood sells a wide range of acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars, so a verdict on one model cannot stand in for the whole brand. The available independent review evidence covers one Java model, not the full catalog; use the model-by-model checks below to judge the guitar you are considering.
Is Tanglewood a good guitar brand?
Tanglewood has a broad catalog spanning series such as Great Britain, MasterDesign, Heritage, Sundance, Java, Rosewood Smart, Winterleaf, Reunion Pro, Roadster, Blackbird, and Metropolitan. Its official series page describes the range as reflecting a commitment to “tone, playability, and craftsmanship”; that is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent finding. See Tanglewood’s guitar series.
The practical answer depends on the specific model and the individual guitar. Body shape, construction, electronics, setup, and price vary across the range. Official specifications help narrow a shortlist, but they do not establish how a particular instrument sounds or feels. There is not enough independent review or representative customer evidence here to give every Tanglewood guitar one reliable brand-wide score.
What do independent Tanglewood reviews say?
MusicRadar’s review of the Java TWJP-E
Dave Burrluck’s MusicRadar review examines one model, the Java TWJP-E, in the context of whether an electro-acoustic guitar under £400 could compete with a boutique brand. Burrluck praised its wood choices, competent build, and appearance, while noting reservations about fretboard and fret work and tuner responsiveness. He also found its amplified voice mid-heavy and said it needed EQ. He saw potential for acoustic practice, songwriting, and recording. These observations apply to that reviewed instrument, not automatically to other Java models or Tanglewood guitars generally. Read the MusicRadar Java TWJP-E review.

Trustpilot’s small brand profile
At the time of access, Trustpilot displayed a 3.0 average from 8 reviews for Tanglewoodguitars.co.uk, with no reviews in the preceding 12 months. Trustpilot also said the company had not invited customers to review it. That is a small, self-selected platform profile—not a representative customer survey or a measure of product defect rates. Individual posts include both positive instrument experiences and reports of problems with a ukulele tuning peg, guitar wiring, and customer service; those are user reports, not independently adjudicated findings. How to compare Tanglewood guitars
1. Choose a shape that suits your playing
Shape affects fit, comfort, portability, and the kind of projection a player may prefer. The Roadster family includes travel, parlour, orchestra, super folk, and dreadnought shapes; the Metropolitan line includes orchestra, dreadnought, and auditorium shapes. These categories are useful for narrowing options, but body labels alone cannot tell you which guitar will feel right. Try the exact model if possible, especially if you have preferences about size, seated comfort, or how the body sits against you. Roadster models and shapes; Metropolitan models and shapes.

2. Decide whether you need onboard electronics
An acoustic guitar can be played unplugged; an electro-acoustic model adds electronics for connecting to amplification or recording equipment. Compare the sound unplugged separately from the amplified sound, since pickups and onboard EQ affect the latter. Tanglewood lists TEQ MX EQ on Roadster electro-acoustic models and TEQ-G3 on Metropolitan electro models. Check the exact model code and current specification before buying, rather than assuming every guitar in a series has electronics.
3. Read the materials as specifications, not a sound guarantee
Construction details can distinguish models, but a materials list cannot prove how a particular guitar will sound, hold up, or feel. Tanglewood describes Metropolitan guitars as spruce-and-koa HPL construction. Its Great Britain line is described as using AAA-grade Sitka spruce with solid mahogany back and sides; the manufacturer also says that series is handcrafted in its York workshop and fitted with LR Baggs Stage Pro Element electronics. Treat the workshop and component details as manufacturer specifications, not independent verification of workmanship or tone. Great Britain series specifications.

4. Inspect setup and playability on the exact guitar
Before committing, assess the instrument in person or ask the retailer about its setup and return terms. Check that the action is comfortable, the frets and fret ends feel smooth, the neck suits your hand, and the guitar stays in tune during playing. These checks matter even when a series has a strong reputation: individual setup and condition can affect the experience. MusicRadar’s Java review is a useful example of why to read for specific details such as fret work and tuner response rather than relying on a general star rating.
5. Compare current local prices and equivalent models
Compare guitars with similar body shapes and electronics at current prices in your market. Tanglewood’s UK pages label prices as guidance and say retailers are not obliged to follow them; they are not a binding retail offer and may change. Confirm the exact model variant, included electronics, and local availability with the retailer. For example, the catalog lists Roadster TR4CE, Metropolitan TM3E, Heritage TW15HE, and Great Britain TGB4CE, but a listing or catalog entry does not confirm current stock or price. Heritage series specifications.

Which Tanglewood guitar should you buy?
Start with how and where you will play, then compare specific models that meet those needs. These catalog examples are starting points, not independent recommendations or rankings:
- For a range of body sizes: look at Roadster models, which span travel through dreadnought shapes. Check whether the exact variant is acoustic or electro-acoustic.
- For Metropolitan body options: compare its orchestra, dreadnought, and auditorium models, and verify whether the specific model has TEQ-G3 electronics.
- For the Great Britain specification: consider the manufacturer-listed AAA-grade Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, York workshop claim, and LR Baggs Stage Pro Element electronics—then assess the individual guitar and its price.
- For a Heritage option: use the official model listing to confirm the materials, electronics, and variant rather than relying on the series name alone.
Before purchasing, confirm the model code, current specification, regional availability, and retailer’s return policy. Tanglewood notes that product appearance may change as its range is revised, so a current retailer listing should match the instrument you will actually receive.
