Tekken X Street Fighter came far enough to have development work underway, but it was put on hold and has never been publicly confirmed as revived. Katsuhiro Harada has described it as roughly 30% complete and said he would like to show existing work. His latest located comment, from August 2025, stopped short of confirming active development, a reveal, or a release plan.

Two crossover games were announced, but only one came out

On July 26, 2010, Capcom and Namco Bandai announced two separate games that would bring together characters from their fighting-game franchises. They were not two names for the same project:

Game Developer at announcement Crossover direction Outcome
Street Fighter X Tekken Capcom Tekken characters entering the Street Fighter world Released in 2012
Tekken X Street Fighter Namco Bandai Street Fighter characters entering the Tekken world Did not follow its announced counterpart; development was later put on hold

The original announcement assigned Tekken X Street Fighter to Namco Bandai and said its platform would be announced later. Capcom and Namco Bandai’s 2010 announcement covered both projects, but the release of Capcom’s game did not mean the Namco Bandai project had also shipped.

Why was Tekken X Street Fighter put on hold?

In April 2016, Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada said the project was no longer in active development and was on hold. He pointed to a difficult release window: Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 were competing for players’ attention, and a crossover might divide the communities the two series had built.

  • Familiar Controls - In SFxT, controls will feel familiar for fans of both series.
  • Robust Online Modes - In addition to the online features from SSFIV, SFxT features totally upgraded online functionality and some new surprises.

“We don’t want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently. So it’s on hold for the moment.”

That was a timing and audience concern, not an announcement that a release date had been set and then missed. Harada’s 2016 comments described a project paused because the conditions for releasing it did not seem right.

Was Tekken X Street Fighter cancelled or revived?

The public statements point to a project left pending, rather than a confirmed cancellation followed by a confirmed revival. In 2019, Harada said he still wanted to release it, but that moving forward would require approval and another conversation with Capcom. He also questioned whether a new crossover made business sense alongside the established audiences for Street Fighter V and Tekken 7. His 2019 remarks expressed interest and described conditions for resuming work; they did not announce that work had restarted.

In 2021, after reports characterized the game as officially dead, Harada said his wording had been mistranslated: he meant development was pending or paused, not that every possibility of resuming it had been ruled out. He said the project was about 30% in progress and that the team was waiting for the right opportunity.

“We are still hopeful that TKxSF will resume development when the opportunity arises.”

The 30% figure is Harada’s estimate as reported by GameSpot, not an independently audited measure of how much of a finished game existed. Hope that development might resume is not confirmation that it did. GameSpot’s 2021 report and later status coverage record both the clarification and the estimate.

What did Harada say most recently?

In an August 2025 interview, Harada repeated the estimate that the game had reached about 30% development and said, “I would like to show people what we already have.” But he also said it was hard to say whether the project was still a thing. The remark signals interest in showing existing work, not a scheduled reveal or a revived production.

As of that latest located public comment, there is no confirmed restart, release date, or announced plan to show the game. The wording leaves open the possibility of future action; it does not establish that one is underway.

What to look for in future updates

A clear status change would need to go beyond Harada’s interest in the project or its existing material. The meaningful distinction is whether Namco Bandai and Capcom announce renewed development, a reveal, or a release plan. Until then, describing Tekken X Street Fighter as “on hold” or “unconfirmed” fits the public record better than saying it is coming.
