There is no official ranking of Starfield cockpits, and the right choice depends on a ship’s crew needs, mass budget, cargo goals, progression, and layout. This editorial ranking weighs those factors together: crew stations and useful cargo matter most, while mass, listed level, and how easily a module fits a build shape the order. The figures below are catalog base values, not a guarantee of current in-game availability; check the ship builder before committing.

How this ranking works

A cockpit is essential: it determines a ship’s crew capacity. The rankings below balance crew stations and cargo against mass, listed level, price, and the practical difference between a compact cockpit and a larger bridge. Crew and cargo are weighted heavily, but a high-capacity module is not automatically the best choice if its size or mass works against the ship you want to build.

Mass matters because Bethesda says it can reduce ship speed when engines cannot compensate. Module access and connection rules also constrain a build. INARA’s catalog lists base values without skill bonuses and describes itself as an unofficial database based on public information that may not be entirely accurate. Treat the numbers as a comparison reference, then verify the part and its values in your current ship builder. The catalog includes variants marked NASA and TER, so the list should not be read as a definitive inventory of base-game-only content across every game version.

The 10 best Starfield cockpits and bridges

Rank Cockpit or bridge Crew stations Cargo Mass Listed level Why it ranks here
1 DS30.1 Ares Bridge 8 300 17 1 Exceptional listed crew capacity at modest mass, with a low listed level requirement.
2 Kon-Tiki B-300 Bridge 4 300 15 1 A balanced early-listed bridge with four stations, useful cargo, and relatively low mass.
3 Viking CP-100 Cockpit 4 200 4 1 The lightest listed option in this selection, while still providing four crew stations.
4 DS40.1 Ares Bridge 8 340 25 32 More cargo than the DS30.1 while retaining eight stations, at the cost of greater mass and a higher listed level.
5 Kon-Tiki B-500 Bridge 6 360 28 34 Strong cargo and crew capacity, but its mass and listed level make it a later, heavier choice.
6 Viking CP-220 Cockpit 4 280 12 12 A step up in cargo over the CP-100 while retaining four stations, with a moderate mass increase.
7 Cabot C3 Bridge 2 280 14 1 Offers considerable cargo for a two-station bridge and is listed at level 1, though crew capacity is limited.
8 Overseer 300 Bridge 2 300 17 1 A level-1-listed bridge with high cargo for its two stations, but not a strong crew-capacity pick.
9 Magellan C2 Cockpit 2 240 10 1 A relatively light, low-listed-level option for a ship that needs only two stations.
10 Commander 500 Bridge 2 360 30 40 Top listed cargo in this selection, but its two stations, high mass, and level requirement narrow its appeal.

All figures in the table are listed base values from INARA’s unofficial catalog; they are not skill-adjusted values. Listed level is a catalog field, not a promise that a module will be available at a particular vendor in every game version.

Best overall: DS30.1 Ares Bridge

Eight crew stations at a listed mass of 17 makes the DS30.1 the strongest all-around entry in this selection. It also has 300 cargo and a listed level of 1, so its catalog profile combines capacity with comparatively modest mass rather than demanding a late-game trade-off. Confirm that it fits the ship’s layout and is available in your version before planning around it.

Best balanced bridge: Kon-Tiki B-300

The B-300 has four crew stations and 300 cargo at mass 15, with listed level 1. It gives up the DS30.1’s unusually high station count but offers a compact-looking balance in the numbers for builds that do not need eight stations.

Best lightweight pick: Viking CP-100

At listed mass 4, the CP-100 is the lightest module in this group and still has four crew stations. Its cargo value of 200 is lower than several alternatives, so it is best suited to a mass-conscious build rather than one prioritizing storage.

Best high-capacity later options: DS40.1 Ares and Kon-Tiki B-500

The DS40.1 combines eight crew stations with 340 cargo, while the B-500 lists six stations and 360 cargo. Their listed masses—25 and 28 respectively—and levels—32 and 34—are substantial trade-offs compared with the lower-listed-level bridges above.

Choose a cockpit that fits the ship you are building

For more crew capacity

Start with crew stations rather than cargo. In this selection, the DS30.1 and DS40.1 Ares bridges each list eight stations; the Kon-Tiki B-500 lists six. The CP-100, CP-220, and B-300 list four apiece. A cockpit’s station count sets the ship’s crew capacity, but the best fit still depends on the rest of the design.

For lower mass

Compare mass against the engines and ship speed you want. The CP-100 lists mass 4, followed by the Magellan C2 at 10 and the CP-220 at 12. Bethesda notes that added mass can reduce speed if engine capacity is insufficient, so a lighter cockpit can be useful when the build is already heavy.

  • Jump into the pilot seat. Pilot your ship, the Trailblazer, as you engage in thrilling dogfights with the Empire and other foes. Find the right opportunities to chase, evade, and attack to get the upper hand.

For cargo

The Commander 500 and Kon-Tiki B-500 each list 360 cargo, followed by the DS40.1 at 340. These figures do not settle the choice: the Commander 500 has only two stations and mass 30, while the B-500 has six stations and mass 28. Select based on what the ship actually needs, not cargo alone.

For a compact cockpit or a bridge-led layout

The catalog distinguishes cockpit and bridge modules, but the figures alone do not establish how a particular module will look or connect in your design. Inspect its shape and connection points in the ship builder. Bridge options can affect the footprint and visual center of a ship, while a compact cockpit may better suit a smaller craft; those are layout judgments, not a universal performance ranking.

Check access, vendors, and connections before building around one

Listed level and catalog presence do not guarantee that a module is available at every shipyard. Some manufacturer parts are location-specific. Bethesda identifies the Stroud-Eklund showroom in Neon and Jasmine Durand at The Key as additional vendor locations. A secondary manufacturer guide also lists locations for Deimos, Taiyo, Stroud-Eklund, Nova Galactic, and HopeTech; check the current in-game inventory because vendor stock and exact availability may vary.

  1. Check class access. The reactor determines which class of modules the ship can use. Piloting skill progression unlocks higher classes; until then, players may be restricted to Class A ships and modules.
  2. Inspect the part at a ship technician or showroom. If the module is not offered where you are, check a manufacturer-specific location rather than assuming it is universally stocked.
  3. Connect the landing bay to the cockpit. Bethesda’s build guidance requires a direct path between them. Placement and connection points can trigger build errors even when both modules are attached to the ship.
  4. Review the ship builder’s flight-error list. Use it to find missing or disconnected components before completing the build.
