The NYT Strands puzzle for Tuesday, July 29, 2025, is game #513. Its theme clue is “You got that right.” The spangram is TAKING PAINS; the other answers are EXACT, STRICT, PRECISE, ACCURATE, and PERSNICKETY. Use the hints below before opening the full answer list.

Strands hints for July 29, 2025

Start with the theme clue

The board’s theme is “You got that right.” A gentler nudge: think of someone who is pedantic.

Letter and board hints

  • The six answers begin with PR, TA, ST, AC, PE, and EX.
  • The 11-letter spangram touches the top edge in column 2 and the bottom edge in column 3.

Words to enter for in-game hints

If you want the game to reveal theme-word letters without seeing the answers, try these non-theme words: STEAK, SNICKET, STEP, CRUET, PANIC, and RACING. In Strands, three valid non-theme words of at least four letters unlock a hint highlighting a theme word, according to Forbes’ description of the game.

  • PERSNICKETY
  • Spangram: TAKING PAINS

The archive writes the spangram as TAKINGPAINS, without a space. These answers are corroborated by TechRadar’s July 29 answer page, Forbes’ hints and answer list, and the date-indexed Strands archive.

Why you may see a different spangram elsewhere

Parade’s page for July 29 contains a sentence naming REUNION as the spangram, but its own answer list gives TAKING PAINS. The archive assigns REUNION to July 26, not July 29, so TAKING PAINS is the answer for game #513.

How Strands works

Strands uses a six-by-eight letter grid. Connect adjacent letters vertically, horizontally, or diagonally to form words. The theme words relate to the daily clue, and the spangram spans the board. Forbes says the game is available on the NYT website and in the NYT Games app; access terms can change, so check the NYT directly for current details.
