In the original Subnautica, Cave Sulfur is collected from an emptied Sulfur Plant in a cave. Each plant houses a Crashfish: make it emerge, evade its charge and explosion, then return to harvest the sulfur.
Where to find Cave Sulfur
Search caves in the Safe Shallows or Kelp Forest for Sulfur Plants. The plant opens as you approach, exposing the Crashfish inside.

How to collect it without destroying the plant
- Find a Sulfur Plant. Look for the distinctive plant in a Safe Shallows or Kelp Forest cave.
- Let the Crashfish emerge. Approach until the plant opens, then give the fish room to charge toward you.
- Evade the explosion. Move away from the fish; using the Seaglide can help you escape the blast.
- Return to the empty plant. Collect the Cave Sulfur from inside once the Crashfish is gone.
Do not destroy the Sulfur Plant before collecting its contents: once destroyed, its powder is no longer harvestable, according to the Subnautica Wiki’s Sulfur Plant reference.
