It ran from August 26 to September 15 as part of Playing for the Planet Alliance’s Green Game Jam. Players collected ingredients during runs to complete a meat-free food quest and unlock Billy Bean, while the campaign also shared environmental facts and invited players to post vegetable recipes.
What was Veggie Hunt?
Veggie Hunt was a Subway Surfers campaign created by SYBO for the 2024 Green Game Jam, an initiative by the Playing for the Planet Alliance. Its stated aim was to encourage players to eat more vegetable-based meals and consider how food choices affect the environment. That was an awareness goal, not evidence that players changed their diets. GamesBeat’s announcement coverage and the Playing for the Planet participant page describe the campaign and its purpose.
When did Veggie Hunt run?
SYBO announced the event on August 22, 2024. The activation ran from August 26 through September 15, overlapping with the Subway Surfers World Tour. Playing for the Planet lists the same event dates. Veggie Hunt is therefore a past limited-time event, not an event these dates indicate is playable now.
How did the event work?
Collect ingredients and complete the quest
Players gathered ingredients such as tomatoes, lettuce and avocado during runs. Completing the food quest unlocked Billy Bean, a vegetable-themed character. SYBO’s campaign description refers to completing a meat-free sandwich, while its Shorty Awards entry describes the completed food as a veggie burger. The available accounts use both terms, so there is no single exact recipe to infer from them.

The awards entry, credited to SYBO, says ingredients could be collected in Season Hunt, Floor is Lava, Mystery Boxes and Core Runs. It characterizes the quest as multi-step, combining active play with opportunities for more passive participation. The campaign also featured food-themed boards and environmental facts in the game. SYBO’s Shorty Awards entry provides these additional execution details.
Share recipes and take part as a community
Players were encouraged to post recipes using local vegetables or share their own recreations of the game’s food. Playing for the Planet says community participation contributed to milestone rewards. The campaign therefore extended beyond collecting ingredients in runs: it paired in-game activity with recipe sharing and environmental messaging.

What message did SYBO want players to take away?
SYBO framed the campaign around the idea that small food choices—including replacing one meat-based meal or ingredient with a plant-based option—could help raise awareness of sustainability. GamesBeat attributed this statement to SYBO CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig:
“Inspiring Subway Surfers’ global player base to live a more sustainable lifestyle is one of our top priorities here at SYBO. Through the Veggie Hunt, we’re aiming to raise awareness for the significant positive impact we’re able to have on the environment even by switching to just one plant-based meal per week. By making small changes like this to our daily lives, together we can make significant strides toward a greener planet.”

The quote describes the campaign’s intended message. The published material does not establish whether Veggie Hunt caused individual players to change their diets or measure the event’s environmental impact.

The event’s published run ended on September 15, 2024, and current official pages reviewed do not confirm that Veggie Hunt remains available. SYBO describes Subway Surfers as an ongoing game with new cities and special hunt tokens, while the official Help Center lists event formats such as Season Hunt and Floor is Lava. Those current references do not establish that the Veggie Hunt event has returned.
