Nintendo’s scheduled release date was October 17—five days later. The report attributed the claims to multiple reports; it did not establish who shared a copy or how it escaped.
What was reported about the leak
In its October 12, 2024 report, Nintendo Life said that, according to multiple reports, some people had obtained early copies and the game ROM had “apparently” been shared online. That is an attributed report, not an independently verified account of the ROM’s origin or distribution.
The available reporting does not establish who first obtained or shared a copy, how or when it was extracted, how widely it circulated, what the complete build contained, or whether Nintendo took action. Avoid treating any of those details as confirmed.
Why the headline says “a week ahead”
Nintendo Life published its report five days before Nintendo’s official U.S. release date of October 17, 2024. “A week ahead” is a rounded description of that short pre-launch window, not an exact seven-day interval. This is a historical account of a 2024 report, not a current leak alert.
#1 Best Overall
- Get ready for the biggest party yet in Super Mario Party Jamboree for Nintendo Switch. From running through merry-go-rounds to motion-control minigolf, this jamboree is jam-packed with over 110 minigames – the most of any Mario Party game to date!

- Race across the party board in Koopathlon, a series-first 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in minigames like the fast-paced Lane Change. The higher your score in each round, the faster you’ll get to the goal. Koopathlon is just one of a slew of additional modes – there’s something for every kind of Mario Party player to enjoy!
Nintendo had already announced the game for Nintendo Switch. Its June 20, 2024 announcement said: “The biggest Mario Party yet will soon be underway when Super Mario Party Jamboree launches on Nintendo Switch October 17.” Nintendo’s announcement also described five new boards, two returning boards, and over 110 minigames, including motion-controlled options. Those are official game details, separate from what the leak report established.
How to avoid spoilers
Nintendo Life’s contemporaneous advice for players who wanted to preserve the surprise was to avoid the internet and social media until October 17. That was the publication’s recommendation, not a Nintendo policy or a guarantee that every spoiler would be contained.

What Nintendo said about play and controls
Nintendo’s U.S. product listing describes one to four players on a single system and one to twenty online. Nintendo UK separately describes local play for up to four players and online minigame play. Nintendo’s U.S. listing and Nintendo UK’s game page provide the official details.
There is an important distinction between motion and button controls: Nintendo UK says motion-controlled minigames and modes require Joy-Con controllers, are unavailable online, and are incompatible with Nintendo Switch Lite and a Switch Pro Controller. Button-controlled minigames remain playable with those consoles and accessories. The Joy-Con requirement therefore applies to the motion-controlled content, not the entire game.
