What is Surmount?
Surmount AI Inc. describes Surmount as technology for investment-strategy automation. The platform combines a strategy marketplace, portfolio dashboard, screeners and market insights, and tools for building or automating strategies. Its focus is helping self-directed investors work with strategies rather than simply handing investment decisions to a robo-advisor.

Surmount’s own review article says marketplace listings show strategy logic, its ETF Builder supports rules-based ETF portfolios, and its AI strategy builder can turn plain-language investment theses into strategies. Those are company descriptions of product features, not independent tests of strategy quality or investment results. See Surmount’s plan and feature listings.

The free tier is not a promise that investing has no costs: the pricing page distinguishes internal accounts and applicable brokerage fees. A subscription price also does not by itself establish the full cost of an advisory or brokerage account.
Is Surmount a broker or an investment adviser?
Surmount’s company disclosures distinguish the software platform from advisory, brokerage and custody services:
- Surmount AI Inc. provides investment-strategy automation software. The company says it is not a registered investment adviser and does not provide investment advice.
- Quantbase, LLC, identified as a wholly owned subsidiary, provides advisory services through the platform and is described by the company as SEC-registered.
- Alpaca Securities LLC is identified as an SEC-registered broker-dealer and FINRA/SIPC member that provides brokerage and custody for Quantbase advisory accounts.
If you connect an existing brokerage account for self-directed use, Surmount says it acts as a technology provider. You are not a Quantbase advisory client unless you separately enter an advisory agreement. Read the applicable account and advisory agreements to establish which firm serves your particular account. Surmount’s disclosures explain these roles.
Can users outside the United States use Surmount?
Surmount’s support page says non-US citizens may use limited platform functions, including building strategies and running backtests, and may connect a supported brokerage account if they have one. It says US citizenship is required to create an internal Surmount account. This is the company’s general support guidance, not confirmation of eligibility in every country or with every broker. What should you know about risk and strategy performance?
Surmount’s disclosure says, “Past performance is not indicative of future results.” It also warns that investing involves risk, including possible loss of principal, and that strategy performance figures shown on the platform reflect live strategy tracking and may differ from returns in an individual account. A displayed strategy record is not a forecast of your outcome, and automation does not remove investment risk.
Before automating a strategy, consider what rules drive its decisions, whether you understand the assets and risks involved, which account it will trade in, and how closely your account can follow the displayed strategy. Account-specific results can differ from a tracked strategy.

How much should you rely on Surmount reviews?
The available product descriptions and disclosures are from Surmount itself, including its review article and selected testimonials. They establish what the company says the platform offers, but not whether users generally like it or whether its strategies outperform alternatives. No representative user survey, independent review consensus, or independently verified performance comparison is established here, so a star rating or firsthand verdict would be misleading.
Surmount may suit investors who want strategy tools and are comfortable making or directing their own investment decisions. If you want a service to make decisions for you, clarify whether you are considering a separate Quantbase advisory account and review its terms rather than assuming that a Surmount subscription includes advice.
