GamesBeat reported that SypherPK and SuperJoy Studios’ Fortnite UEFN map Rocket Wars accumulated 5 million hours of playtime in its first 30 days in 2023. GamesBeat said that was similar to the Steam playtime for Among Us and Hollow Knight “at the time of writing”—a historical comparison, not a claim about either game’s current totals or equivalent popularity.
What did “rivals Among Us” mean?
GamesBeat’s August 1, 2023 report, updated June 18, 2025, said SuperJoy Studios shared the first-month figure: 5 million hours played in Rocket Wars’ first 30 days. GamesBeat translated that into an average of more than 160,000 hours per day over the same period. The comparison to Among Us and Hollow Knight referred to Steam playtime “at the time of writing,” not a current comparison. GamesBeat’s report

The figures describe accumulated playtime, not five million players. One person can contribute many hours, and the report does not provide a player-count equivalent. It also does not publish a downloadable dataset or enough detail about its Steam comparison method to reproduce that analogy independently. Treat it as GamesBeat’s reported context for the milestone, not proof that the Fortnite island matched either Steam game in audience, popularity, or commercial success.
What is Rocket Wars?
Rocket Wars is a Fortnite island made with Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) by SuperJoy Studios in collaboration with creator SypherPK. Its island code is 5196-0233-5799. GamesBeat’s report and SuperJoy Studios’ portfolio identify the project and its code.

GamesBeat described the island as a live-service Zone Wars map set in space. The report also noted custom victory animations, including rare endings and a golden-ticket ending connected to an invitation to a community tournament. How did the map gain traction?
GamesBeat attributed some of the map’s reach to cross-promotion on SypherPK’s channels and marketing activations. That is the outlet’s account of how the launch was supported; it does not establish that any one promotion caused the reported playtime. In the same report, Daniela Ali, an Oni Studios cofounder and business partner, described a tailored approach to production and marketing, saying the work used simplified processes suited to the games industry. What the numbers do—and do not—show
GamesBeat also reported that, in the most recent week covered by its launch-period data, Rocket Wars had 28% more playtime and 15% more players per day than in its first full launch week. These are historical comparisons within that report, not current activity figures. GamesBeat’s report
SuperJoy’s portfolio page displays 73 million lifetime plays, 72,000 daily active players, and 37 minutes of average playtime for the project. The page text does not date those figures, and they measure different things from the first-30-days total. Third-party services such as FCHQ.io and FortCharts can offer additional activity or cumulative-play snapshots, but their coverage and methods are tracker-specific; those figures are not a replacement for Epic’s original analytics or the first-month data reported by GamesBeat.
