Yes—Street Fighter 6 is worth playing for most fighting-game fans, and its Classic, Modern, and Dynamic controls make it more approachable than a game built around one input style. Critics have been much more positive than players in the available ratings snapshots, and the best version for you depends on whether you prioritize image quality, portability, or included character content.
What do Street Fighter 6 reviews say?
Critics have reviewed Street Fighter 6 very strongly, while player ratings are more mixed. The figures below are platform-specific snapshots inspected in 2026, not a single combined score:

| Source | Snapshot | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Metacritic | 92 Metascore from 96 critic reviews; user score 7.5 from 1,259 ratings | Critic and user ratings on Metacritic; the page also showed 99% positive among 95 classified critic reviews and 70% positive user ratings. |
| Steam | 83% positive from 20,909 English-language reviews overall; 70% positive from 674 recent reviews | Steam’s recent-review figure covered the preceding 30 days at the time of inspection. |
The gap is worth noticing, but the scores are not directly interchangeable: they come from different groups, platforms, and rating systems. Treat them as useful signals rather than a guarantee that every player will have the same experience.

#1 Best Overall
- Stunning visuals and an all new battle system depicts the world of Street Fighter with unprecedented detail.
- For the first time ever, SF6 provides an ever evolving immersive storytelling experience that gives power to the player to create their own World Warrior and truly engage in the Street Fighter Universe
- SF6 provides the gold standard fighting experience for both casual and battle-tested pros can enjoy for years to come.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions. DLC content may not work unless using an EU Playstation account as stated this is an EU Import Region Free Version
- Fighting Ground: The core combat offering for players who want to focus on matches.
- World Tour: A single-player story and exploration mode.
- Battle Hub: A social gathering space with multiplayer activity.
That mix gives the game more than a conventional sequence of one-on-one fights. If you mainly want competitive matches, Fighting Ground is the central draw; if you want a solo route or a place to interact with other players, the other modes broaden the package.
Is Street Fighter 6 good for beginners?
It can be. Street Fighter 6 offers Classic, Modern, and Dynamic control schemes rather than requiring every new player to begin with traditional motion inputs. Capcom describes Modern controls as allowing special attacks without complex button combinations; that is the publisher’s accessibility positioning, not a promise that the game’s combat has no learning curve. Capcom’s June 2026 announcement also points to strengthened accessibility features.

- Classic: The traditional input option for players who want the established control style.
- Modern: Simplifies special-move execution and is a sensible starting point if motion commands feel like a barrier.
- Dynamic: A further control option listed alongside Classic and Modern on the official PlayStation page.
All three schemes sit within the game’s shared Drive Gauge system. On Nintendo Switch 2, TechRadar reported that Joy-Con 2 directional inputs make motion commands difficult, while Modern controls simplify special-move execution. A compatible controller or fight stick may suit some players, but the available evidence does not establish that an accessory is required; check compatibility for your platform before buying one. TechRadar’s Switch 2 review discusses the input trade-off.
Which platform should you choose?
Capcom lists Street Fighter 6 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The original platforms released on June 2, 2023; the Switch 2 version followed on June 5, 2025, according to Capcom’s June 2026 product details.

- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
| Priority | What the available evidence suggests |
|---|---|
| Portability | The Switch 2 edition makes the game playable on a portable system. TechRadar praised its playability. |
| Image quality | TechRadar reported lower resolution and image quality on Switch 2 than on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This is one reviewer’s assessment, not a full cross-platform benchmark. |
| Motion-input comfort on Switch 2 | TechRadar found Joy-Con 2 directional inputs make motion commands difficult and noted that Modern controls simplify special moves. |
The available review evidence does not establish comparative frame rates, latency, or measured resolution across platforms. Choose based on your preferred hardware and input, rather than assuming the cited Switch 2 comparison settles every technical difference.

Compare the base game with the current listing for the Years 1-2 Fighters Edition before purchasing. Steam describes that edition as including the full game, Year 1 Character Pass, Year 2 Character Pass, and edition stages and colors. Contents, prices, and retailer availability can vary by platform and change over time, so check the store listing for the version you intend to buy: Street Fighter 6 on Steam.

TechRadar identifies a physical Years 1-2 Fighters Edition for Switch 2, but availability and format should be confirmed with the retailer at the time of purchase. Buying an edition with character passes makes sense if you want its included additions; if you only want the base game, compare the current contents and price rather than assuming the bundle is automatically better value.
Is Street Fighter 6 still receiving support?
In June 2026, Capcom said cumulative sales had surpassed seven million units and that it had decided to add four characters in the game’s fourth year. Those are publisher-reported sales and content plans: they show continued support, but sales figures alone do not establish whether the game suits your tastes. Details can be checked in Capcom’s announcement.
