Rockstar Games announced on March 3, 2025, that it would acquire Sydney-based Video Games Deluxe and rename it Rockstar Australia. The announcement describes the studio’s past work with Rockstar but does not assign it to Grand Theft Auto VI. Any claim that it is supporting GTA VI development remains speculation.
What Rockstar announced
Rockstar said it would bring Video Games Deluxe into the company as Rockstar Australia. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price or detailed transaction terms. Rockstar’s acquisition announcement connected the companies’ history to Video Games Deluxe founder Brendan McNamara’s former studio, Team Bondi, and the creation of L.A. Noire.

Rockstar Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe said, “After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia.” McNamara said the studio was “thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games” and to continue making games.

Rockstar also described its Grand Theft Auto series as having sold in more than 440 million units worldwide. That is the company’s “sold-in” figure in the acquisition announcement, not an independently audited count or a measure of sales attributable to Video Games Deluxe.
Is Rockstar Australia working on GTA VI?
Rockstar’s announcement does not mention Grand Theft Auto VI or identify Rockstar Australia’s post-acquisition project assignment. Its prior experience with Rockstar games may make future collaboration plausible, but it does not establish a GTA VI role. Unless Rockstar confirms one, “supporting GTA VI development” should be treated as an inference, not a reported fact.

GTA VI’s current release date and platforms
As of October 8, 2026, Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists a November 19, 2026 release date and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms, with pre-order options displayed. Release dates and availability can change, so the official page is the place to check for the latest listing.
The date replaces an earlier plan: Take-Two said on May 2, 2025, that the game, then expected in fall 2025, was planned for May 26, 2026. CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company supported Rockstar taking additional time to realize its creative vision. That schedule is historical, not the date currently shown by Rockstar. The May 2025 Trailer 2 release also reflected the earlier schedule and introduced Jason and Lucia and the state of Leonida.
