Street Fighter 6 saw a sharp rise in concurrent Steam players around the August 5, 2025 release of its swimsuit-themed Outfit 4 wave, which included Chun-Li. Polygon reported about 8,600 players online at the start of August 4 and roughly 50,000 on release day. That is a near sixfold change from the specific earlier count—not a measured doubling—and the timing alone does not prove the costumes caused the increase.
What happened to Street Fighter 6’s Steam player count?
Polygon’s August 8, 2025 report put concurrent Steam players at about 8,600 at the start of August 4, then around 50,000 on August 5, when Outfit 4 arrived. Those are rounded, time-specific counts, not daily unique players or an average across the day. The figures describe a sharp spike, but comparing them does not establish that the outfit alone brought players back.

Steam Charts’ August 2025 history records a peak of 50,604 concurrent players and a monthly average of 18,675.09. For comparison, it records a July 2025 monthly average of 14,482.81 and a peak of 31,470. A peak captures the highest concurrent count reached during a month; an average summarizes concurrent activity across that month. These are different measures from Polygon’s two reported moments. Did Chun-Li’s swimsuit outfit cause the jump?
The available figures show that the rise coincided with Outfit 4’s release; they do not isolate its effect. Sagat also arrived on August 5, and other game activity or community attention may have contributed. Without evidence that separates those influences, it is more accurate to say the spike followed the release than to credit Chun-Li’s costume as its proven cause. Polygon’s account is at Polygon.

What was included in Outfit 4?
Outfit 4 was a swimsuit-themed costume wave released August 5, 2025, alongside Sagat’s arrival. Chun-Li was one of seven characters included; the others were A.K.I., Cammy, Jamie, Kimberly, Luke, and Manon. These numbers are concurrent Steam players: people playing through Steam at the same time. They are not sales, total active users, daily unique players, or counts across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and other PC storefronts. The figures therefore document a Steam spike, not a platform-wide doubling.

Capcom lists Street Fighter 6 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The company gives June 2, 2023 as the release date for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and June 5, 2025 for Nintendo Switch 2. Its June 9, 2026 release describes the game as “a new generation of fighting games.”
