A YouTube copyright claim naming Take-Two Interactive removed Revolution Team’s channel and project videos shortly before the planned January 2025 release of Vice City: The Next-Gen Edition, according to contemporaneous reports. The team said it released the fan-made conversion on schedule after changing it into a standalone package that no longer required Grand Theft Auto IV.
Why was the modders’ YouTube channel taken down?
On January 23, 2025, RockstarINTEL reported that the project’s trailer displayed a YouTube notice stating: “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Take-Two Interactive.” The report also said project videos were claimed or unavailable after Revolution Team’s channel had been closed. This identifies the claimant named in the notice, but does not establish Take-Two’s full reasoning or every step in the channel’s removal.

Revolution Team said its channel was deleted two days before the project’s release. GameSpot reproduced that account on January 27, 2025. The team also said the channel held hundreds of hours of development streams and could not be restored; those details are the team’s account, not an independently verified assessment.
What was Vice City: The Next-Gen Edition?
It was a fan-made conversion that brought Grand Theft Auto: Vice City content into the engine of Grand Theft Auto IV. GameSpot described the project as including Vice City’s missions, cutscenes, and world. It was not an official Rockstar remaster.

Did the project still release after the claim?
Yes. Revolution Team said it released the project on the promised date in late January 2025. The team’s launch statement said the teaser had received “over 100 000 views and 1 500 comments in less than a day.” Those are figures claimed by the team and reproduced by Gameranx, not independently audited audience metrics.
The team also said it rebuilt the release as a standalone, installation-ready package after removing the original requirement for a copy of GTA IV. GameSpot likewise reported that the initial version required GTA IV but that the requirement was later dropped. A purchase of GTA IV should therefore not be presented as necessary for the standalone package described in the January 2025 coverage.

What is known about the project’s availability now?
The January 2025 reports establish that the team said it released the conversion, but they do not establish whether an authorized download is available as of October 8, 2026. The channel removal and copyright notice also do not, on their own, establish that a lawsuit followed or settle the project’s legal status. No specific Take-Two explanation of this action is established by the cited coverage.
